I just conquered Salzburg (with a claim before, of course) as Austria in the beginning of the game.

I got like 50 AE and have a coalition of like 7 members against me. What the hell? did I conquer like 5-6 provinces in the last war? Just 1 province! one!!

Then simply say in the manual don't conquer anything at all and let's get over with it.

Probably WAD. AE now scales with base tax and Salzburg is an HRE member which increases AE as well.

Salzburg is a base tax of 10 irrc and to boot it is a HRE member these add up.
I remember the good old days when I could conquer like a half of the HRE as Austria even before 1500's to avoid the protestant schism even earlier...

And why to vassalize a country in a peace offer costs exactly the same as a conquest? After all it better suits the HRE so the states can still exist.

Well that's the HRE, you can't just get away with conquering the other members.
Then how is that I can see other members are conquering each other without getting any coalitions against them?

Even provinces with high base tax like Frankfurt and Hamburg.

I just clearly remember that a year ago, you had to conquer like 6 provinces in a single war in order to get such a coalition against you.

Other member states do tend to blob like crazy (depending on the game : trier, hesse, sometimes bayern, mainz, etc) but you have to be honest : they need 200 years to annex like 10-15 provinces. Austria is different, with influence ideas, emperorship and sometimes papal control you have reduced AE and most of the time good allies to deter coalitions. Lucky nations also benefit from reduced AE...

The easiest way to avoid coalitions is to keep everyone's relations up really high. Improve relations with anyone and everyone you can, at all times. People only join coalitions if their relations hit a certain negative value. (-100?) The actual aggressive expansion against you doesn't really matter at all. And also remember allies take far less AE compared to other nations. Ally up the nations that would take the most AE, improve relations with the others, and move slowly. If you keep this in mind, it's really easy to conquer, even in the HRE. In my AoW Aachen game I've eaten most of the HRE by 1600 and never really had any problems with coalitions.

You're wrong, AE is MUCH more important than relation to determine if a country enters or leaves a coalition against you. Typically the threshold is -30AE, no matter the relation. If you stay under 30 with your neighbours you're doing fine. Even your big time rivals won't join a coalition if your AE is low, even with -150 relation.
If you happen to be the target of a coalition, improve relation and sit tight. Hire the +30% better relations guy in december (useful trick in case the adviser is +2 or +3 and too expensive to hire 24/7) to reduce the AE as fast as possible. Ally Austria/Bohemia/France/Poland (now lucky but occasionally pathetic) when possible.
