Connecting to the Outside World

Hi All,

I'm new so forgive me if it's been asked before. I did a search but couldn't find what I was looking for. I started playing the game last night and the only thing I can't do is find how I connect my city to the outside world.

What am I missing?

Just do it? Hook up your roads to the highway that goes to the border of the map.

Later, you can hook up train tracks, and build ships and planes.
