Connecting to MP Game

Normally when I play mp I host and a lot of the time one of the other players crashes while loading. So after a about 3 minutes it dawns on me and I alt control delete out and cut the game back on and go back to the vnet. If this happens continually: 1) they have sorry computers and need to get better modems 2) I am pissed off having to constantly alt control delete out and cut the game back on: that gets old. My questions is is there anyway to go back to the vnet without cutting the game off then cutting it back on?

No there is not but it can be avoided.

What you need to do is impose discipline. Alot of your problems I have had and you need to get tough. There is a little need for these problems to happen and they can be avoided. 95% of the times this happens to be is because of newbies and idiots. To avoid loading locks follow the suggested pattern.

Exchange files via ICQ. Direct load is unstable and can be interupted by newbies jumping in and out of the load page.

*CRITICAL* Do not alter any of the countries in the available list until everyone has loaded and joined. After this point do not let anyone else join, if you do, rehost.

When you are about to start type 'READY' and get everyone to respond in kind. Then you know everyone is there and ready.

Ensure your players do not alt-tab out when you are loading.

If you have any newbies or idiots jumping in and out explain that they are ******** your game up and tell them to stay still or leave for good. Send me the details of any player that refuses to comply.

If you have any doubts at all, at all, then ask everyone to leave, then you leave and then rehost and get everyone to rejoin. I have drastically cut my load lock rate back from about 40% down to about 5% by following these simple instructions.

Well, I tried MP games today, and i am a bit confused.
First, i succeeded in joining Valkryie forum and join game, but when we launched the party, it crashed, therefore the hang-host you mention. Version 1.5, ADSL connection, normal install, WHY does it happen? We repeated this 3 times, result 3 crashs. I gave up not joining the party.

Second, i witness an other party re-launching every 10 minutes because of crash. If it is always the case, the MP games are really *****.

I want to play MP games, but in this conditions...

you have bad sessions and good sessions. Some of the big events at the begining such as the reformation, russia forming, ToT cause problems. Half the times we crashed today were due to those. Every time we reloaded they would pop up, indicating that it had crashed over those. After that we had a clean 10 year stretch and had a lovely 20 clean stretch early on with 7 of us at 2:1 with 3 x 56kers in the group. It got nasty about 1516-1519 when reloaded every year.

I dont know what happened to your own game- that does sound freaky though.

Dont despair. As you get more experienced you learn how to avoid the crashes.
