First off, I'd like to say that I've been following everything very closely. Everything looks really good so far. Plenty of things remain from previous itterations so that is all familiar, but enough stuff has changed that it should be new and exciting. I also know that it is still early in development, but with the information we have so far, I've got a couple of concerns that I thought I'd mention. They may wind up being nothing, but I thought I would mention them anyway, just in case no one else has thought of them.
1) Just how tough are they? K, bear with me a sec as i explain. We know from Johan that the smallest moveable unit on the map will be a division, and we also know that a division can be made up of anywhere from 1 to 5 brigades. So the question becomes, when I look at the map and I see 4 divisions, I have no idea whether I'm looking at 4 brigades, or 20. Will there be any way other than launching preemmptive probe attacks to see what I am dealing with? Similarly, will I even be able to see what units he has in reserve? Will I even have any idea how close I am to winning, or will it simply be "I win when I win?"
2) So.... who fights? I know things will change, but ill try to use as many Hoi2 terms as I can to explain. Say for example I've built myself a 9 division stack of troops. Say for the sake of argument that they are all 1 brigade divisions. In my 9 division stack, Ive got got 2 armor, 1 motorized infantry, and 6 militia (yeah, I know its silly, but bear with me again). Say also that Im able to squeeze 3 divsions into the front (no idea how many itll really be). Is there any mechanism for determining who will actually be fighting? obviously, I would prefer the armor and mot, because they fight so much better, but is there any way to determine that they will actually be fighting? I can think of a way, but it basically involves breaking up your combat troops into front sized battle formations, launching the attack (so now all the troops you wanted fighting are on the front), and then moving the rest of the troops into the fight, whereupon they become reserves. Its doable, but that feels cumbersome. Im not sure how else it might work. Too tottally simplify the question, if you overload a front, what determines which units are gonna fight? luck?
3)So, I built some tanks, now what. We know that brigades are the building blocks of divisions, but once a division is constructed, is it set in stone? As an example, I build some tanks before the war begins, and before I know how to build motorized infantry. Will I be able to go back and add motorized infantry brigades to my tank brigades later? If not then it would be a disincentive to build anything before I'm able to build it exactly with the brigades I want. I just thought of this as I was writing, but if your able to build everything right from the start, and then just improve it later, then that would solve this problem.
This is already long enough, so Ill stop here. I have many many mroe questions, but they mostly concern stuff that hasnt even been gone over yet in the dev diaries. I want to reitterate that I'm extermely excited about everything so far, and cant wait to see more.
