Hey all,

I've got about 30 hours played now and have watched tutorials and read the wiki, but I'm obviously missing something!

I'm trying to unite Ireland in the 1066 scenario playing as Murchad of Munster. Earl Diarmait of Locha Lein spread vicious rumours about me and then tried to fabricate a claim on the Petty Kingdom of Munster. I threw him in jail and executed him.

Predictably, his son became the Earl of Locha Lein (and my vassal), but I also got a vassal inheritance warning. The heir in line to locha fein is Earl Muiredach of Deashumhain. This guy owns a county that is dejure part of my realm (the petty kingdom of munster) and I plan to make him a vassal soon enough via war, but I'm very confused about how he is in line to inherit this country. I can't see any family ties between the son (who is now the vassal holding Locha Lein) and the guy (Earl Muiredach of Deashumhain) who is first in line to inherit it (moving it out of my realm).

Is there some way to find out how someone falls into the line of inheritance? I've had this happen before and was confused then too.

Thanks :)

If you want to see how he is in line you can go to the county and click the coat of arms in the top left of the county menu:

If you want more information you can then click the coat of arms and it will take you to a menu showing more information (who is voting for who in elective for example):

This menu is very useful as it will also show you which title are vassals (de jure if you tick the checkbox) as well as allowing to you see the de jure lieges of a title (those will appear above the history button after ticking the de jure box.

I also checked (clicked the dynasty shield and went up trough a few different dynasties) why the earl of Deashumhain was in line, and that is due to them sharing an ancestor in the year 420 (so a long time before the timeframe).

This is awesome thanks so much for taking the time to reply to me. I also went up through the dynasty and found the ancestor in question. I had no idea the game stretched so far back.

One more question if it's okay..When I click up through the dyntasty, the house changes - from House Mac Cartaih to Eogonacht-Chaisil (think I've spelled these totally wrong!) and then again to house Eagonacta.

Could somebody please explain what's going on here? What causes a dynasty to change name like that?

Thanks so much again :)

Dynasty names can not change during game (except for bastards), but in the history files (characters that are dead before the game start) it can happen due to families taking a new name or establishing a cadet branch (which is not possible in the game, but only in the history).
