I have a couple of questions about forming South German Federation and Germany as Austria.

First Question: I’ve been reading in some of the other posts that the condition to form the SGF is very simple: Austria either needs to own or have sphered all provinces with South German culture. As such, to make it happen, I would only need to take Sigmaringen (Prussian Wurttemburg).

However, when I look at the “Decisions” screen in the actual game, it says the prerequisite conditions are:
For all cores one of the following must be true:
One of the following must be true:
Province is Flensburg
Province is Aabenraa
Province is Colmar
Province is Strasbourg
Province is Metz
Or owner is Austria
Or owner is in the Austria sphere of influence

The way I read that, it means that Austria must either own or have sphered one of those provinces above, or have owned or sphered all of the German cores. But that’s not what I was reading in the forums. So which is it? To form SGF as Austria, do I just need to conquer Sigmaringen or do I have to do a whole lot more?

Second Question: Once SGF is created, it can form Germany. I understand that. But if Austria uses SGF to form Germany, what happens to Austria?

Thanks, and looking forward to getting back into the Victoria universe!

You need to own or sphere the owner of all South German cultured provinces, but you do not need Alsace-Lorraine. When you hit the decision, the South German minors will be annexed by you. Then all South German provinces you do not have a core on will get South German Confederation cores and SGF will be released as your satellite in your sphere of influence. When you have also sphered all the North Germans (including Prussia), taken Alsace-Lorraine from France and Schleswig-Holstein from Denmark, you can form Germany, and you will annex the SGF.

Thanks for the quick reply! So I can form Germany in this case without releasing Hungary or any of my other nations?

Hooray! Thanks for the help!
You can do the same thing with Prussia.

After you form the NGF, you need Austria badly beaten so that you can sphere them, once they are in your sphere just hit the Three Hurrahs decision and you inherit all Austria.

You can beat them badly by taking Bohemia and Moravia, for good measure occupy all of Austria, that will cause them to drop out of GP status, even Secondary Power status.

Anyway, give us an update on how your game as Austria goes.
