Well since England is taken, and I do not see myself as an expart player (which means that Austria wouldn't be such a great choice for me) I'd like to pick Portugal if the current player doesn't play it, or perheps offer to take Genoa or persia/mughal if you wish to add another power to the game.

I don't understand much of this "positioning of strong players on the map" that occupies the minds of GMs.

If a strong player has "weak" neighbours then the other "strong" neighbours of those weak neighbours will presumably support the weak, since they have no interest in having the other strong player grow too much. Or perhaps they will eat the weak player themselves.

Surely the "strong" players understands this basic of any BoP game, it only takes an IQ of around 80 or so after all

IMO BB is the least important nation. And NO, you do not need a BB to balance anything in the game. That balancing can be taken care of by the rest of the nations. In fact, you do not need any nation to balance any other nation in a EU MP with say 4+ big nations. It is only the lack of ability of the players to adapt to new circumstances that may stop them from act logically and make sure the power is balanced adequately.

I agree. I dont find it very good that GMs try to even out the balance of skill. If the less skilled players never end up in a position that challenge them and force them to play above their abilities, then they will never develop the will to get better and they wont happen in the situations that will evolve their in-game behaviour .

nice game and for me playable at Wednesday evening.

A lot countries are gone I see, only AUT free. I wanted to play a nation that not stressed up.
But if AUT only free, I can take it. Need a lot to do with them, so, it never be boring for me

I believe I can host. 0.8Mbps upstream. I have hosted some in the past, more than 10 players. Some players have complained of huge lag but other have been very pleased.

Besides I just bought a new comp with better stats. I do not know if that enhances hosting capabilities, perhaps it is only the internet connection that is crucial

And what I said about quitters was serious. I do not want to play vs quitters. I've spent enough time on campaigns that go down the drains because of players quitting. I have made a black list that I keep at my desk with all the other EU papers, it consists of
a) quitters
b) players behaving grossly impolite
You have to make a decision on this subject.
