"We" did not leave you AI. You did. We tried to get subs for FRA as well but only got Raspoutine for a short time. He crashed after a year or so.

We had two subs available except Rasp: Absolut and Da-nu (later replaced by FAL). Absolut was recruited by Krisz for taking England and that left Da-Nu who was put in Holland by the GMs. I do not know the exact reason. A little later Da-NU crashed and could not rejoin but FAL offered to be a sub instead. Since HOL was at war with SWE at this time it meant FAL had to play HOL as well. I can only say it hurt Russia a lot since he not only took away the TA but instituted a TE on Russia later on.

I must say it is quite sickening seing these subs coming in and embargoing me. This is the 2nd Dutch that does this. I have had done nothing against them and still they do it. It would be manageable for me to conduct diplomacy with HOL if there was a perm who was interested in the long-term perspective of the game. As it is it is impossible.

As a matter of fact it could be interesting to hear the reasons Engel choose to put Da-nu in Holland from start - a nation that lacks a perm although we want one - instead of France - a nation with a perm and a much more important player in the game. Holland is expendable but FRA is not. Was it because Bob wanted it, making it possible for him to DOW HOL and take back Gotland?

Of course, DP slider moves I am always in favour of when someone has been forced to be away.

NL was chosen above France because NL was very likely to get into war with Sweden/England soon into the session.

At the beginning of the session France actually did have a sub, but after a rehost iirc that sub didn't return. Holland was in war at the time so to leave that AI would of been stupid. Raspoutine subbed France for 10-20 mins before he crashed. I decieded it wasn't worth the trouble to rehost for a sub who according to the rest of the guys didn't have a reliable computer/connection.

And Daniel DoWed me, so it wasn't like I DoWed him because there was no french player.
