Music and unit pack awesome! Portraits? No thank you I have learned my lesson. I am looking at you gipsie/muslim mediterraneans.
Give us the benefit of the doubt here, I personally think that the Norse Pack is our best yet (you always get better at something the more you do it, right? xD).

I always wonder why people bitch about the face packs. Well why they bitch about the russian one. I actually think it fits..at least its not the god damn invaison of the orange people that the med. faces are.

The noses...the eyes..THE COLOR. Really, its the goddamn orange skincolor they got. Its just so damn uncanny valley. Russian Faces are fine though, color and appearance wise, though ironically i make a point of transforming all the vlach people into russian-looking vlach. Somehow the russian portraits fit the romanians so well XD

This one looks more the same of that, so at least its not one i will hate myself for buying like med faces were. Now on to the celts! I really want some more shades of red hair and green eyes, guys. So get to it!:p

I also think russian faces are fine. Not great - but they are good enough to make it worth it for diversity's (grammar?) sake.

The mediteranian faces are aweful. But that's been covered more than enough on the forums :)

Why does every thread that mentions portraits have to devolve to Med. & Rus. DLC bashing... They are done, whether you like it or not (I do). Each pack should be considered on its own merits, since you can buy and enable them individually, and I've seen nothing to suggest problems with the Norse one.

A bit disappointed that those things aren't part of the expansion itself, but at the same time this isn't the first or even second time it's happened this way. Milk the eager ones for all they're worth and get what you can out of everyone else. Seems to be the order of the industry atm.

Actually this has been debated. It is not so much that Paradox is trying to milk it but that new content comes "a la carte". That way you can choose which parts of the new expansion you want instead of having to pay full price for everything. Me for example will buy everything except face pack so i save a couple of euros.

I definitely prefer this. I can buy the main DLCs that I want immediately, wait for a sale on the cosmetic ones I don't care so much about, and leave (or selectively disable) those I don't want at all.

I'm not blaming Paradox. Just disappointed that the industry in general tends to lean in this direction now.

Actually this has been debated. It is not so much that Paradox is trying to milk it but that new content comes "a la carte". That way you can choose which parts of the new expansion you want instead of having to pay full price for everything. Me for example will buy everything except face pack so i save a couple of euros.

It's two different ways of looking at the same thing. It's nice to pretend that this business model gives the customer choice, but the reality is the expansion would cost the same if the other stuff was included in it or not. Adding the graphics and music would not increase the value of the package, but neither does removing them decrease the value. So, instead of giving customers something for "free" (it has no value as part of the expansion, so it's just kind of included rather than actually free), they take away the graphics and music from the expansion and create "artificial" value by selling them separately.

It's a bit worrying that the most devoted players are "rewarded" for their dedication by having to pay more than the rest of us. Though I will again say this is industry-wide and not just Paradox so people don't think I'm like, trying to hate on someone.

It occurs to me after I've typed this that I'm pulling the thread off topic. I apologize, it was not my intention to make anything more than an observation.

<rant snipped>
do you really want to discuss this topic again? IIRC, there's already an ongoing discussion in the EU4 forum and another (though slightly dead) in the main PDS forum, so head there if you want to join the fray. The Ck2 forum has pretty much had at least one thread evolve into this with EVERY expansion-dlc released (not counting SI, which pretty much generated enough butthurt to power a continent), so let's not turn this thread into another one.
as tempting as it is for me to counter and argue that graphics and artwork have inherent monetary value by the very fact that resources were spent on paying artists and musicians/composers to make them, let's not go there...

It's got beards : 3

Ironically, the potraits have been getting worse with every release. Mongols > african (not my taste, but potraits were well done)> russian (can a designed ruler please look like something that I play as) > med. Med pack by far is the worst one. The quality is so far below the original portraits its a slap in the face to customers. Its sad when I have to use mods to make DLC usuable. Sorry PI you all screwed the pooch on this one and deserve to be held accountable. I will not even consider the potraits until forums consensus says they are any good. I'm not interested in paying (even $1.99) to make characters uglier than before.
