Conclave DLC is the worst thing Paradox ever made.

Brother, best friend, +100 opinion decides he is not a loyalist and never supports me.
No one ever supports me to changes laws, even with high opinion, even loyalist.
Bribe council to help me revoke title, owner refuses and declares war, win war and imprison the guy, needs to bribe council again because they dont want to revoke title anymore.
Random dude is trying to murder the emperor/king/heir, council dont support imprison because they dont want "powerfull vassal" to lose land.
Favors are just hardwork, no real requirements for asking, anyone can ask for them, everyone accepts it, the only favor a guy ask me to repay was to conquer 1 county in Norway that had 500 troops, Im the emperor of UK.
For no reason a duke of whatever (not even powerful vassal) decides he is going to ask favors of 3 members of the council to vote against me, +70 opinion, no claims no nothing.
I know why people join especific factions of warrior, priests and whatever but this cant mean they will never support something out of the contest of their faction, only if they are bribe for it

This whole DLC just introduced hardwork for the player and gives absolutely nothing for it, things that happen are completely random, its bad balanced, its bad explained, its bad design

Im salty with this DLC, first and only game I will play with it, to bad its ironman

I bought conclave, played for an hour, immediately refunded it. Game is much much better without it. Council mechanics are clunky, tedious, and often quite unrealistic- not to mention unfun.

Clunky and tedious, sure but I don't really know about unrealistic. You can break the will of the council as long as they don't have an iron grip over you already, at the cost of opinion. They are often tedious but part of the challenge.

I dunno, I had fun with it. Favours are practically free so long as those people aren't on your council. Guess what they'll use their favour for? Getting onto your council, and now lacking one favour. Wups.

Council won't support you? Fill the council with nobodies, request their support, declare all the wars, revoke all the titles, grant all the land, push weaker council laws, replace the vassals that now owe you favours with actual strong vassals that need the opinion boost.

You can't get that one big vassal at the opinion threshold necessary to stop factionalizing? Go ahead and give him that marshal position. He'll love you, and each successful troop training event means he's helping you become more prosperous.

Oh no, your big vassals make useless councilors but they're still getting angry? Well, you've got a ton of spare daughters lying around. Marry them off and bam-- non-aggression pacts everywhere for at least your generation and your son's.


I see it as a different sort of warfare. When I'm done fighting my external enemies or have to wait till I can expand, I can war with my vassals by making sure they either like me enough to stay peaceful or are incapable of turning against me. Takes a few maneuvers sometimes, but that's what give it a thrill.

Me too.

However, like every new system introduced in CKII, it needs more work. I'm patient enough to wait for it to get more attention. If, when CKII finally stops getting development time, I'm not happy with it I'll just fix the files myself. Or use a mod that changes things to what I want.

Besides, as it is now Conclave is pretty damn good when you're playing as a vassal. Roping my liege into wars for my foreign claims is simply awesome, as is breaking Realm Peace attempts or forcing myself onto the council.

Just setting aside for a moment that I do like Conclave and a lot of the things that it brought to the table, let's look at the other side of this topic that no one else has addressed: the worst thing Paradox has made.

Rafa, listen buddy, you are making a dumb statement here. It appears you haven't bought Sengoku based on your forum icons, but maybe you have and just forgot about it. But I assure you, Sengoku (AKA "CK2 tech demo with none of the love that CK2 got over half a decade") still exists, so you can't call anything else the worst thing Paradox ever released.

Cough cough, Sons of Abraham, cough cough... :-D I like the things that it allows me to do (convert to the religion of my capital county, play as Jews, borrow money, etc), but the entire Council of Cardinals is far, far, far too boring for me.

But I'll admit I like Conclave as well. It's an added challenge to deal with your council, and when you get sick and tired of it you can just neuter it and do whatever you want anyway. The extra +2 demesne makes it a bit easier to have the troops to put down those pesky "Request greater council powers" rebellions.

I like it because otherwise my blobby empires wouldn't have anything to fight. Personally I dislike RoI...all of the mechanics were a great addition, but an entire subcontinent of rulers and courtiers that's too far away to attacked by Aztecs? Meh.

Yeah, Rajas of India is a close second, but the subcontinent itself was part of the patch, not the expansion itself.

Yep Crapclave is terrible. Don't buy any Paradox DLCs until they return to the path of light. They've been outputting garbage of late, Mare Badstrom, Crapclave, HoI 4...

I heartily disagree !

I'm currently playing as the Duke of Lombardy and I've had need to change my council laws at least twice - once to allow me to imprison a rich treacherous mayor and the second to allow me to declare war on anyone I want. In both cases I started down 1 vote to 5, but asked one lord to do me a favour while calling in favours from two others. 3 to 3 with me as tie breaker, yes !

Meanwhile, I find a capable loyalist, give him a favour and promote him with my recently revoked title. Now that he's powerful his favours are no longer cheap but who cares, I've already got his support in the bag.

Rinse and repeat !
