Concerns about the lack of major gameplay changes

I get the feeling that this sentiment is based on the fact that all paradox games are based on maps, so some people are too short-sighted to see the game mechanic overhauls.

Seriously though, what do you expect Paradox to do? They have been giving the community what the community wants.

After all the people going "Waaaa, it's not EU3!" (and "Waaaaa, it's not CK2!") we now have some people thinking it's too much like EU3.

Paradox can't win, it seems.

I don't see the problem with the game being like the previous title with improvements. What were you expecting?

You say 'a few' - I see many improvements. I love the new trade system, overextension, power points that offer decisions on how to spend, navies moving around the screen the whole time protecting trade nodes etc.

You should have seen the people who claimed that paradox is not ashamed of releasing the same game with only a bit of changes to the map over and over again. Its unfortunate that not all people are patient enough to see the beauty of paradox games

Haven't checked the demo or really read in depth but I think I would prefer the clear penalties of overextension compared to EU3's popping rebels and whatnot. I guess looking for the information is a fault on my part though since I haven't mastered EU3 but I feel that EUIV represents everything much clearly than EU3.

... so you want the devs to change the game, but you don't even know yourself what you want changed. You just want it to be different. Somehow I get the feeling you simply lost interest in this type of game at large and that no matter what the devs do youwould still be bored. Sorry, I don't mean to be offensive, it just reads to me that way.

my recommendation is to start play Crusader Kings 1, those lazy devs just put on new engine and throw out fun and nice looking building in provincies (for some random + stats menu) and call it sequel!

really, as much as I loved CK1, when you try 2 you dont look back, same is mostly gonna happen with eu4, loving the demo

so much change isnt always good thing, but I guess its all subjective, when EU3 first come out, i try it for a while and said, hmmf, and go play back eu 2 with awesome mymap<

So basically the economy, diplomacy, technology and trade systems are completely overhauled and you can say with a straight face that nothing major has changed?

I sympathise with OP but can't imagine why he's surprised. EUIII was essentially honed and updated over 5 years, of course many gameplay features are going to remain canon. I deliberately didn't play EUIII for months because I knew the transition wouldn't be massive difference. EUIV to me is the Grandaddy of upgrades to EUIII. It's a work if art. I look forward to the next 5 years if growth and added flavour with relish.
