I hope you're right. I was thinking devs said somewhere it would take time and effort but couldn't find it. Feb 14th Q&A only mentioned 3 parts would be combined into a 'mech.

At 16:15 mark of the final Q&A, Mitch said we have to kit out the new mech but didn't mention anything about having to spend time putting the parts together. Cohh's version is even more generous giving player a fully kitted with default gear.

There will be a lot of json file digging before I start I tell you. =(

Now that I thought more of this it could be that instead of getting fully kitted and repaired 'mech, it shouldn't be too hard to change it so that you get a 'mech with a lot of damage and no equipment instead. Could be something they just hadn't finished yet. Even better if it can be tweaked with JSONs.
The Centurion that came with Argo didn't have much on it.

Ohhhhh. That would be dirty. Fill up a slot in your mechbay with a mech that will cost 300k to repair and 50 days.(all locations destroyed)

I dont think the free Centurion or the salvaged and rebuild Mechs should be destroyed when you get them. They should have no weapons. But why would you salvage a completely destroyed leg of a Mech to rebuild something? You wouldnt get a Mech part anyway if it wasnt at least in an "ok" condition. I think you could reduce the Structure a bit, between 10-25%, which is probably more realistic (and you would need a couple of Days in a Mechbay to fix it, which could be the Assembly.

Considering it takes 5 days to repair a bit of damage caused by overheating, you'd think assembling a 'mech from parts takes from three different destryoed 'mechs would also take a while. I do agree taking structure to minimum would be a bit too much.

That is why, based on the preview streams, something like 10-25% damage should be okay. It needs a couple of days to fix, it needs a couple tousand cbills, that could maybe be more what you would expect when you assable a mech based on 3 broken parts.

A system where an assembled mech has 25-50% structure on all section would be nice. Since you don't lose any mechs, gaining a new mech that may radically improve how your lance operates should be a significant endeavor and not as an afterthought.

Also adjust the resale value of those husks to even less than the 10% we are receiving now and there might actually be a challenge to financing a merc unit.

Ideally, these changes can be activated with a 'hardcore' mode toggle in the options because I understand most new players to the BT universe will be far better served with the current system.

The problem with having salvaged Mechs being damaged is this: You can not send damaged Mechs into storage. So, by accident you got 3 parts of a spider or whatever Mech you don't want to use at all, or just now because it doesn't fit into the lance: You now have to send one of your totally fine Mechs u r actually using for missions into storage, repair the one you salvaged for however long it takes, send this to storage, get your first mech out and refit it again, takes another few days. This is not punishing, this plainly sucks. I understand why it feels strange to have a fully repaired Mech out of the sudden, and I would be perfectly fine with it to be stripped, but damaged with the current mechanics? No.

The solution would be to allow us to store mech components as-is and assemble/refit them on our own time so that we can plan our MechBay space accordingly.

Then the storage mechanic needs to be reworked. You've been lugging 2 random mech parts all over the periphery and just because you suddenly come across a third one, you suddenly can't put them in storage anymore until it's in pristine condition?

Don't overthink this, and don't try to rationalize your position with real-world points. The system will be set up to reward and incentivize players, but hopefully not too much.
In the end, that's the only point that matters.

Agreed 100%. I think that automatic assembly should be an option, and I personally would prefer assembly to take time. So say you got three pieces of a Trebuchet as salvage as a mission reward; instead of automatically being assembled immediately following the mission, you'd have to task Yang with doing this at a C-Bill and more importantly, time cost.

To my mind, this would make the reward of getting a mech a little more drawn out without devaluing it.

Just have an assembly task the mech techs have to run in order to assemble a mech. Structural repairs can be assumed to be a part of that process. Require an open bay to assemble into for extra difficulty. That would out a serious damper into using mech assembly as a cash cow even if you had unlimited mech chassis parts.

The more you would upgrade your mech tech abilities and mech bays the less of a hinderance something like that would be.

Cohh has almost bankrupted himself and I don't think he realizes that his mechs have plenty of weapons but not enough heat sinks. This could go bad. I am not watching because I want to save something for when I get to play the game myself.

He's pretty openly just experimenting at this point since he knows he's going to have to start from scratch on release. I can respect that.

He's openly not reading the cost of his ship upgrades. That's why he was going near broke (almost twice) most recently when he had a 6 month buffer built. He almost pulled the trigger on the C900K upgrade and opted for the one that was C375K (I think that was the cost) instead and purchased a weapon system he probably didn't need and could have salvaged. Then the month ended and it was time to pay what he owed leaving him suddenly contemplating his mech salvage to sell.

He's gotten much better as of the latest video. I used to cringe watching him play, but I enjoy it now.

There's still room for improvement, but give him a second chance if you haven't seen the video where he started off up-armoring his mechs (now to work on heat management instead of under-gunning mechs ;) ).

With the mech salvage, I wish you needed 7 parts instead of 3 - it does seem very easy,

From the stream it seems like Cohn is averaging 3 parts salvaged per battle without even trying much.

Also concerned with how low they've set the price of equipment sales.

Hope those are tweak-able in json.

Saw people arguing that the 10% selling price is necessary to prevent players farming easy missions for money, but in my opinion the vastly better way to have handled it would be to limit number of easy missions available to you within a month's travel distance, scaling probability of that to your current tonnage of mechs you have available.

It's not unreasonable that small-time contracts like pirate raids, in a system might dry up fast if there is an elite merc unit taking jobs there - if you were a pirate with a lance of lights and you heard that a merc band swinging 300 tons has taken out 3 other gangs in the system in the last month, would you be thinking that now is the right time to do some raids there?

No, you would probably GTFO and look for easier prey.

There are ways to balance economy that are far more plausible that 'I can't find anyone willing to pay more than 10% of the value for universally needed goods'

I've watched him broadcast. For me, that's 6am but it's BattleTech and I have enjoyed watching him. I am sure when he is not pushing the pace in the stream, he would be making better choices.
