After watching Cohh for about 3 sessions and seeing the storage from Paradox's gameplay 3 days ago, I'm coming to the conclusion that MECHS ARE SUPER EASY TO OBTAIN.

There are mech parts everywhere and after obtaining 3 parts, it seems you don't even need to repair them - just need a quick refit. I know I can technically go for higher difficulty missions but the abundance of mech salvage even from CT-destroyed mechs just feels wrong.

I will have to implement some house rules or it'll be pokemon zoo after the first week.

Cohh played for 10-11 hours and got what Mechs extra? A Centurion, a Panther, a Jenner and if i counted right, 5 parts for 4 different Mechs (Commando, Shadow Hawk, Centurion, Jager). May be wrong on that.

He benched his Spider and Locust that where part of the original Crew, and he still uses the BJ, Vindi and Shadow Hawk that where also part of the start.

For 11 hours of playing the game, this doesnt seem like much if im honest.

I'm not to worried about it yet. He got some crap light 'Mechs and a few pieces of heavy. Considering you just can't buy 'Mechs on the open market and you can only buy parts, and the parts that are available are light and poop, it is going to be a challenge to get some heavies and assaults. Making sure you only hit legs and getting the mech seems to be the best way to add better 'Mechs to your pool.

I would just take 'Mech parts to sell since they are worth a lot.

He managed to look up their sale price just once in the last video. The LCT was about C200 k and the Spider was about C300 k. That's 10% of their listed price, and that was in a friendly system that gave him a 5% discount on prices. Now compare that to his repair costs on a few missions and you'll see that he only barely breaks even.
On top of that, he's become sloppy by playing against only 1/2 skull OpFors, and is now getting his butt handed to him regularly on 1.0 and 1.5 skull missions.

He only got crappy light mechs because he's only faced crappy light mechs. Once mediums and heavies starts to show up, he's gonna collect them at similar rate.

There's IS a bit of pokemon vibe in this aspect. I wonder if it is intentional.

Itll come down to weather you save skumm or not. Makes MAY be pieced together quickly at first glance but its also entirely possible to outright lose a mech in a single lucky shot.

This is going to be one of those games where youll ruin all the fun by loading saves everytime something goes wrong.

Of course. You want to collect as many mech pieces as possible so you can field diverse lances or lances of mechs you love.

I am already looking forward to my gameplay where the first time I take down a Battlemaster, my priority salvage is going to be any Battlemaster pieces I can find.

And others are going to try to get their fav mechs as fast as possible as well.

I think you'll have such a variety of mechs that you're facing it will be a decent amount of time before you collect anything crazy, yeah you may get a piece of heavy here and there but you still have to get pieces of the same heavy. Add that to the fact that he started running short of weapons and had to buy them for hard cash...I personally feel it's reasonably balanced.

I noticed that he started facing Heavy class mechs at a point where he really had no viable way to obtain some of his own by taking missions at a 'normal' seeming pace, and accepting story missions when they first appear. It looks like grinding side missions often and in stretches is the big way to be on even footing for the story missions. Grind side missions, improve Merc rep, obtain tougher missions, and possibly sight enemy heavy mechs and end fights with salvage. I'm not adverse to this approach with the game's pace at all. A player wants to put a Panther together easily? There's effort involved but it's not stressful. You want to add an Orion to your collection? It looks like that's going to be an epic quest all in itself for the time investment.

Edit - for myself, I think I'm going to set a goal of getting a full lance of beefy 50-55 ton mechs with custom weapon layouts the moment the Argo is granted to me. I'm going to need a rock solid base for what will be dropped on me after that. My inner lore nut is very satisfied with this situation - Mediums made up the greater percentage of mechs in table top for a reason.

Well it's still going to cost a bunch of c-bills to put them together. It's going to take a lot of time, and remember you can only have your team working on one thing at a time. So if you need to repair and refit any of your current 'mechs you'll have to put that construction on hold for a while. I think there's plenty of things out there to balance it.

I'm not sure that works. From the paradox stream and his stream it looks like mission difficult is gated more by location than anything else. The starting systems have very low contracts, and if you want higher ones, you have to pass the story gates first.

I thought the rate was pretty reasonable myself, and the limits on the number of active mech also keeps things from getting out of control. And the costs involved (and getting weapons to fit the new chassis) also slows things down- remember salvaged mechs come with nothing. No weapons, no heat sinks, no jump jets. You've got to pull all that out of your collection.

I didn't catch much of todays stream as I had to pull a double shift. Did anyone happen to notice that when you manage to get the 3 parts and rebuild a chassis, does it come with the stock weapons automatically? Or did it pull weapons and components out of his parts stock? It would be an interesting thing to see if you only had + or ++ versions of those weapons, and when you managed to get the 3 chassis parts together if it uses those +/++ parts in place of the "generic" parts.

Salvaged mechs are naked. Armor has no cost, but weapons, heat sinks and JJs have to be supplied. Some weapons are going to be significantly easier to replace than others- you can farm vehicles (galleons, strikers and scorpions) basically indefinitely if you feel like it. The NGNG stream had him running 'pirate elimination' three times in a row.

Those new mechs do not come with weapons but it doesn't seem like you need to repair them either. Once you get three parts, you have a naked mech. That, combined with the fact you can't lose mech (just cost money to repair them), you'll have a large stable very quickly unless you derb out.

It’s a naked chassis and you have to refit it with weapone and accessories from your inventory.

I noticed that too and had to go back and check, but I'm 96% sure that stuff got pulled out of his stock. Seems a bit off to me personally though as he got some significant refit time for free by nature of having all the right parts on hand.

Nope, putting them together is super easy, barely an inconvenience. There's no re-activation fee, Yang just throws the chassis together and then notifies you. You'll still have to spend the time to re-arm it, though.

Hmm, I saw him build two, and I was probably looking away from the screen, but I could have sworn I saw the second mech he rebuilt had stuff on it already, I might just be thinking about what I saw when he hit the "stock" loadout button perhaps. I wasn't paying as much attention as I thought I did I suppose.

I think if you have the default weapons/parts in inventory, it takes them automatically to build the stock version.
