I've seen a demand for more character models on the forums; The ability to be a druid or a warlock. I support the addition of character customization, but to a degree. For example, the first line of hats introduced in Team Fortress 2 were minor changes to the model of the current hat the character had. A mining light for the engineer's hardhat or a trophy belt for the sniper's hat, for example.

This is the best way to add different models to the game in my opinion. Having the Wizards look like Druids and Warlocks would be a bad idea; we fight them. Having the wizard look drastically different than his peers at Castle Aldrheim would be odd. More things like the wizard hat are what I am proposing.

I've come up with a few ideas to better explain what I mean:

The Experienced - Scorch marks around the hands and the feet. The robe is little dirty.

The Prepared - A backpack on the wizard. Maybe a potion tied to the waist.

The Wise - A big bushy beard like the headmaster.

The Glutton - A rope of sausages around the neck of the wizard.

The Spy - A goblin's face partially popping out of the hood.

The Tutor - A black robe, like Vlad's, over the wizard's current robe.

I support this!

Also, I heard not all the colors were there.(dont currently have the game, cant check for myself), specifically, i heard white was not there.

Now I dont know about everyone else, but Id like to run around and pretend Im Gandalf for a little bit XD They give you the staff, why tease you like that and not let you be white?

I fully support the original post. Allowing players to be enemy models is by far sub-optimal and drastic changes to the model will be out of place.

And I decidingly do not want this to turn into Magickhat.

At the moment, if we're just talking minor things, I'd really like White and Brown robes added.

Naturally, the foremost thing that should be dealt with are the bugs. When it comes to the wizards, I would prefer the addition of aforementioned colours over my suggested model changes. I've always enjoyed playing as a bit character, and the brown colour emphasizes the redshirt mentality of that. The addition of playable content should also have a priority over new models.

If the choice of customization for the player's avatar was something the designers had planned, however, I would prefer it would be simple, minor cosmetic changes as opposed to elaborate new models and the ability to play as something the wizards fight.

I'm not sure I understand. How?

I just want brown so I can play a brownshirt. Not a redshirt. :D

I must say that op's idea is quite lame, possibly there'll be some degree of customization in the future, but hopefully it won't be a blatant tf2 ripoff, 'cause I know tf2 is cool and all that, but it'd be pretty sad to go that way once the devs have already shown the kind of awesome stuff that can sprout from their own imagination.
Then again, I have nothing against having new robe colors.

TF2 was the example. I could have said Halo 3, as you can buy new unlocks on that game to alter the model of your character slightly for personalization.
If I wanted to rip off of TF2, I'd suggest they'd abandon the original characterization of the characters in favour of wacky hats.

Unless you are suggesting TF2 invented the concept of minor changes to a character's model.

Personally I would love to run around as a druid or maybe Vlad.
I can appreciate why people wouldn't want other people running around with enemy skins though.
In fact I know that I frequently get mistaken for a Warlock while I am a black robed wizard.
What I think the best implementation would be to meet both sides in the middle, would be to make enemy skins different to the actual enemy skins which would likely be required anyway due to Warlocks and Druids not wielding swords. Then make use of the flag in the XMLs that signifies if a character is allowed to be used in campaign mode so some of the more enemy like skins are kept out of the campaign to keep that sameness of all the wizards.
Thinking about this flag just now and how it can just be edited in a text document has made me think that a better solution would be to have a option to turn off seeing certain skins on other players. Who could then just appear as the default skin with the correct weapons. Then people who don't want to see druid and warlock team members don't but those who like the skins can get their variety.

I just wonder if we will ever be able to have "custom models". I mean, i wouldn't mind if, after the bughunt calmed down and the game works smooth and well, we get some interesting DLC-Wizards for a buck each. that sure would be appreciated. But how about user-created content? Any plans on that?
