Today I played a game as King of Aragon for about 50 years (using extended timeframe mod) and have some concerns about tech research.
Here is a screenshot of tech advances in province Alto Aragon at the game start:
ck28.jpg

Here is the same province 51 years latter:
ck27.jpg

Not a single tech was researched! Progress bars show about 25% progress - does it mean that you need 200 years to research a tech?

My advisors spent considerable abount of time researching military and economy tech - but result is insignificant. Several times my spymaster managed to get some knowledge in Constantinople and you can see the result in Noble Customs and Cultural Flexibility.

Has anyone seen a single tech advance in demo and how long did it take?

Due to the research ability speeding up the closer you get to certain dates being coded into the game, because your year is 700 you are still a good 400 years off the first discovery, so it's as if you were trying to discover level V technology in 1066.

Hope this helps.

Every other Paradox game slows down research on technology that's too far ahead of the game year, to ensure relative parity amongst similar nations. The EU series, the HOI series, the Vicky series.

Think about what you're doing here. You're trying to research 11th century techs in the 7th century. You're researching techs four hundred too advanced in a game with a four hundred year timespan.

With the date change, you get a HUGE malus because the tech is ahead of its time.
If you look the tooltip of the research for a province (select the province, put the mouse over one of the 3 tech icon), you'll see a big red number saying the chance is very very low...
I must admit, I'm amazed that you have so much progress considering the malus.

In province view you can check annual research progress (advances icons). It is from 0.5% - 20% yearly, but actual progress seems to be ten times smaller. If you have 20% per year, you should be able to get research done in 5 years. Question is, if slow tech progress is intended and tooltip is wrong or other way.

the mod i use changes all dates in all txt files, so the game should treat research as if i had started in 1066. it is still very slow.

only thing i imagine making a huge impact later on are buildings. with the loads of money you get you can upgrade all bishoprics (fortunately you can build them even if you are not the holder) and these will increase research... hopefully

The mod I use changes all dates in game files, so it doesnt have to matter. Still, it may be the problem, but I havent seen a single tech advance even in unmodded demo.

It's a problem with your mod, mine does not have this problem.
Maybe. Have you seen any tech advance? :)

Yes I saw it yesterday. Tech advance is slow but it is happening, I had a few points of increase.

At first when I modded my game I just changed the full dates (like 1066.12.15) to be 400 in the past, tech was really slow in this case. Yesterday I read I need to change lines that are in the format year = 1066 too, plus five lines in defines.lua.

I have my own script so I don't know if those changes are in the other one on the cheats thread (the one that needs awk or whatever).

Technology.txt doesn't contain any dates to change. Tech speed could very well be hardcoded.

Nah, in \common\defines.lua:

Thank you! I found the possible source of the problem - it`s in defines.lua.
