Hi,

I actually posted this question in the latest dev diary, but got no answer. There are quite a lot of posts there, making it easy for the devs to miss it, so I thought it was best to create a thread.

I'm not exactly sure when this was introduced, but as part of the optimization, they made it so that if someone gets a illness event, all his next of kin get it as well. It's fairly common to see a ruler and his children ill. The problem is that this is also true for more serious diseases such as pneumonia. For mods that have more deadly diseases such as AGOT (ie. gonorrhea, grey scale) you see entire families being wiped out and go extinct or at least seriously crippled because of this. As it's hardcoded, there is nothing mods can do about it.

I understand why you made it this way. There are less individual calculations and checks, as the event just applies to all the close family. The thing is, now you are introducing much more serious diseases, such as as cancer. So, the question is, are you going to keep this system of applying diseases on mass, or are you going to change it?

Thanks for your time.

What is this based on? Because I've seen no post, mention, or in game trend or otherwise that in anyway supports this?

Post Conclave I have seen many illness and diseases. And yes if it happens in your capital with most of your immediate family being there, it can have a higher chance to effect more close family members.

But even then post conclave I have seen certain children of mine get sick in my capital while certain other children of mine also in my capital don't get it. I really don't think there is any automatic applying of it to next of kin, especially not for optimization purposes.

Are you sure you aren't just getting a run of bad luck, combined with the normal all of your kids being in a sickly capital?

I mean they might have implemented such a thing, I could very well have missed it entirely but I don't see that.

Well, I never saw a Paradox dev actually state it, but I see it happening all the time. Even yesterday, while playing AGOT, I had a vassal get greyscale through an event and then his two only children got it as well at the same time. I know it's not much, but when I reported this problem there back in March 2015, someone stated they had also noticed this, and that it had already been like that for a while: http://citadel.prophpbb.com/topic8334.html

I don't think this is just a coincidence. It happens way too often. Even people dying by accident I see happening to more than one family member at the exact same time. I can only assume this was put in place for optimization, to have less calculations and checks, to speed the game. If a dev could possibly enlighten me on this issue, I would be grateful.

Dude, i highly doubt this. This makes no sense whatsoever. The game treats each character as a separate entity, there is no collective check for diseases. What MAY happen is that a character gets sick and makes his children more likely to get sick too, as they more likely than not share the same location (county)

Right but that's probably greyscale's fault.
Or the AGOT mod fault.
Not the base game.

Right but how many times outside of AGOT mod did you get this event? Zero, because I bet that event is specifically for grey scale / AGOT mod. No where in my base game experiences have I seen an actual event that gives my kid the sickness I have.

It just seems like your taking this one specific fantasy disease in a AGOT event in the AGOT mod, an admittedly more contagious fantasy disease at that. And then combining this with the often clustered and high mortality rate of the base game's diseases. To make this assumption that there's this hidden event / mechanic applying sickness to entire families for the purposes of optimization.

When really applying potentially life threatening diseases to entire families just for optimization, in a dynastic family simulation game, just don't make sense.

But to be fair. What version are you running? Because there was a version of this game where they did slightly buff diseases, and diseases just went mad. Everyone would get sick, loads of people would die, it wasn't event based they just buffed diseases. And then they toned it down a little bit and now diseases come and kill people but it isn't the black death that it always was. The problem is I do not remember when this was. I thiiiiink thiiiiiiiiiink vaguely that the diseases were buffed after way of life, and possibly fixed back down with conclave. I know it was recent.

It's not that specific disease nor the mod, as in the link I provided, the mod creator says "It is probably something to do with this, there is nothing in our scripts that would cause a bunch of people to be hit with some sort of affliction at the same time."

I was only using the mod as an example, because it has much more deadlier diseases, just like the new expansion will introduce. It happens with all diseases, unless for those that are disease outbreak related, such as the pest. I also experience this in vanilla. I have the game to auto update and I very rarely run betas, so I currently have the 2.5.2 version.

This is one hell of a conspiracy theory, that I have never heard anything about before this. I'm pretty sure that your year old reference has to do with what Asiak said regarding the buffing of diseases. That was about a year or so ago.

Fair enough, but it still happens to this day. So if it was toned down in Conclave, it shouldn't be happening anymore, and for me it's still happening.

You're also running a mod, so I would check in the appropriate modding forum and not the vanilla forum.

I also play vanilla. As I said before, I was just using the mod as an example because it has more serious diseases, just like what the expansion is going to introduce. It's less noticeable in vanilla, because it's mostly the ill trait which has only -2 health. So you don't have the mass deaths you get in mods, where they have deadlier ailments.

Also, I did check the appropriate forum and mod creator said this isn't caused by the mod.
