Your going to be waiting awhile, the first polaris/pascal are likely to be mid range cards not the high end. Also, the way async compute is looking to be software based again on Nvidia, its likely going to be a better idea to go AMD this round (current GTX 970 owner).

I want regular driver updates instead of one halfway decent one whenever amd feels like releasing one. I am not believing rumors until they are confirmed anyway. I personaly only had bad experiences with AMD in the past and asynch computing isnt an sellingpoint for me anyway. I am looking at performance, not async computing.

I doubt that there will be alot directX 12 games that utilize most of its features anytime soon anyway. Besides that atleast in Ashes of the Singularity with the latest drivers Nvidia and AMD are basicly on par with the 980ti and Fury X in directx 12 mode and both are basicly equally priced.

That stuff aside we will get more information during the GTC anyway.

Fair enough, neither of us really knows until reviews come out. Me, i'm feeling jaded at how much faster a 390x is in games than my 970, when they were similar prices at purchase. As far as paradox games go, it doesnt matter at all anyway. What CPU did you have before the 5930k?

Noitce much difference in games at all? I'm on a 2500k, and trying to tell myself its not worth the upgrade. Saw a 5930k massively discounted the other day and kinda regret not getting it.
if you are on the i5 2500k, which uses the LGA1155 socket (Z68 Mainboards) and want to upgrade to the 5930k, you'd have to get an new X99 mainboard aswell as new DDR4 ram, since it isnt compatible with DDR3. If you want an pure gaming cpu go with the i7 6700k or i7 4770k. You have to have the right Socket for the CPU to work.

The i7 5930k uses the 2011-V3 (X99 Mainboards) Socket. (Only compatible with DDR4 Memory)
the i7 6700k uses the LGA1151 (Z170 Mainboards) Socket. (Compatible with both, DDR3 and DDR4 depending on the mainboard)
the i7 4790k uses the LGA 1150 (Z97 Mainboards) Socket. (Only compatible with DDR3 Memory)

For an pure gaming system i personaly would choose the i7 6700k. It has better single-core performance compared to the 5930k, while the 5930k is excelent for multi-tasking and rendering etc. Everything that utilizes more cores benefits from it, which games usualy dont really do that well to be honnest and if they do they use 4 cores at max. It should also be noted that the X series of mainboards are the xtreme series, which is an enthusiat platform. The Z Series is meant for regular consumers.

If you want the best bang for buck I suggest to get an i7 4790K. You can get one for 300-320 bucks. The 5930k costs almost twice as much, and its not so much better for gaming.
Also don't forget that you'll also need a new motherboard for it, just as @LordOfWar16 wrote.

6700K is also fine, it's about the same as the 4790K, but it costs 40 more. On the plus side you can use DDR4 with it, but memory speed doesn't really matter for gaming if you have a good processor and video card.

When both 2600K and 4790K are OCed to similar/same frequency, there is barely any difference in their performance.

I have 2600K and regularly use PCs with intel 4770kas well as 6700K and I dont consider even 6700K (at +- same frequency) to be a big enough performance increase, to justify extra expenses.

Well for one the 2600K is more expensive, or at least the same price then the 4790k. It's 400 dollars on amazon.
Still 4790K is superior then a 2600K. Not to mention that the 99% of the users doesn't know or doesn't want to OC.

Besides, OP was talking about 2500K.
