Ok I think I got it. The game was acting like it was a Memory leak and Something in my crash report was nagging at me. It said available memory 0mb. This got me thinking back to the old days with 0+ year old dos based games* trying to run under systems that had more memory then the game could record. So I was dinking around with my paging file and created a second one, For a total of 3x what I was Originally running with. When I loaded CK2 it crashed immediately after I hit start game. Lightning struck! The paging file might be too large for the game to read. I reduced it to system generated paging file and only a single. Voila! It runs again.
It *seems* to be stable. Haven't played for long enough to find out for sure but so far no crashes.
Cross your fingers!

*Benefits to being a computer nerd in 1991

That would be great.
I thought about resizing the page file as well, but did some search on it and it should downsize if necessary automatically as far as i understood.
It would sound mysterious if that still matters.
I'm curious for your report and great that you don't give up. :)

btw, have you checked if your comp acidentily might switch to your onboard graphics card while playing and that maybe causing the crashes ?

Onboard is disabled.

Oh okay.

Now it did crash but after a great deal longer. Think I found a culprit.

The suspense is killing me. :D (i have some experience with that as well, not to mention the 486er days...)
Though i wonder if something's wrong with the new nvidia drivers or the games programming, as some nvidia users (going by freezing issues and other reports) seem to experience crash or lag issues.

Still Crashing. Fresh install on windows. Crash crash crash. Is Paradox even aware there is a problem? If they are it doesn't seem they are doing anything. It's not just me. Just google Ck2 has stopped working.
Posts are endless.

I provide support for CK2 here, in the zendesk, and when I can in Steam. Yes there are crashes being reported on CK2, as there always are with every game, but I can't see there's some general problem - most turn out to be the usual causes like bad installations, old drivers, lack of memory, particular game bugs and so on.

You've had this issue on this machine going back to October at least , so two major patches. We'd know by now if this was widespread and no-one could run the game without crashing!

What was the culprit you were referring to just then? I take it that turned out to be a red herring?

When you say "fresh install on Windows", you're referring to the game on your existing Windows? Or a reinstall of Windows itself?
If the game: did your reinstall include deleting the documents/ck2 folders?

Are these crashes triggered by any particular action or event in the game?

Can I see a new complete dxdiag.txt please? Attach here as a file, or upload to a file hosting site like Dropbox and paste a link in here please. And I may as well get a new settings.txt and system.log please.

Do you have access to any other machine to test the game on?

Would be wide spread enough for people to notice, not so much that it effects everyone. Hardware related?
Similar GPU's? Similar Processors?

What was the culprit you were referring to just then? I take it that turned out to be a red herring?
Reducing paging files increased time between crashes, but it still happens. Also seemed that running as few programs in background increased playable time. Memory leak?

When you say "fresh install on Windows", you're referring to the game on your existing Windows? Or a reinstall of Windows itself?

Full. Fresh. Everything. Multiple times. Ck2, Steam, Windows, deleted docs. All Multiple times.

Are these crashes triggered by any particular action or event in the game?
Nope.

See Page one. Hardware and OS haven't changed, did fresh installs and updates on all drivers, multiple times.
Do you have access to any other machine to test the game on?
Nope. Not going to get one either. Too much money spend on this game and DLC. Can't afford a new PC.

Those three threads are all new and have had no response from the OPs. Quite likely what I suggest will fix them.

If it's a memory leak, you'd see that in Task Manager. Are you? You have 8gb of memory and the game rarely takes over 2gb, so I'll be surprised if you see that, but do let us know.

Full. Fresh. Everything.
So there were Windows reinstalls involved? That was the key question. If so:
Please go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\crusader kings ii\DX\ and run dxsetup.exe
Please go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\crusader kings ii\ and run vcredist.exe

If that doesn't help, please try installing ALL of these Microsoft modules:

First: http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=8328

Then: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35

(If that doesn't do anything then http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109 )

Then: visit the Windows Update site and allow it to apply all .NET updates/patches it wants to, for all .NET versions.

Too much money spend on this game and DLC. Can't afford a new PC.
I wasn't suggesting you buy a new PC (for heaven's sake! As if I would!) But it's not unreasonable to ask if you might know someone else with a computer? A friend or relative, who might have one you have borrow for a couple of hours?

Did you see your feared memory leak in Task Manager?

Do these crashes leave any record in the Windows Event Viewer? You mention a crash report up in post #43 - was that WEV? Can we see it please?

Let's try turning off as much as we can. In settings.txt please make these changes:

refreshRate=60

master_volume=0

draw_trees=no

draw_citysprawl=no

If that helps, we probably have a sound issue - did you end up updating those 2010 sound drivers?

Task manger and CK2 are kinda tricky running together, Might have to switch to windowed mode. Alt tabbing seems to make it a touch unstable. Will see about this.

WEV:
The program CK2game.exe version 1.0.0.0 stopped interacting with Windows and was closed. To see if more information about the problem is available, check the problem history in the Action Center control panel.

Exception code: 0xc0000094 is Divide by Zero. This is very unlikely to be a code bug in the game, or we'd know it well and truly by now! So what could trigger that in your machine?

What anti-virus app do you have? I suggest you run a deep scan with it, plus with at least two other utilities - I suggest Malwarebytes and Spybot.

Conversely, you could also try running the game without your AV app active.

Also, can you please install Speccy (free system info app) and export the info it finds using "Save as text file" and attach it here please.

This is a very unusual one! I don't recall a single case of that exception in over 10 years' work here ...

View attachment U-BOAT-PC.txtI use Mcafee. Mind you it has been crashing with and without AV. Gone through several Formats and Dozens of Full Virus Scans.

Also that download website was kinda Sketchy.

Was never thinking it was an Error in the game, more of an Incompatibility not listed in System Requirements. This is Literally the only game I have that crashes like this and I have owned some of the World's Most Glitchy games.

The Speccy site? I downloaded it on my machine and it installed and ran just fine.

Stuff I can see running in there, let's try without if we can:

Perfect World Entertainment\Arc\Arc.exe
Star Trek Online_en\Star Trek Online\Live\GameClient.exe

\DivX\DivX Update\DivXUpdate.exe

Real\UpdateService\RealPlayerUpdateSvc.exe

RealNetworks\RealDownloader\downloader2.exe
RealNetworks\RealDownloader\recordingmanager.exe

And when you disabled MaAfee as a test, ALL these were no longer running?

Path C:\Program Files\McAfee\VirusScan\mcods.exe
Path C:\Program Files\Common Files\McAfee\AMCore\mcshield.exe
Path C:\Program Files\Common Files\McAfee\Platform\McSvcHost\McSvHost.exe
Path C:\Program Files\Common Files\McAfee\Platform\McUICnt.exe
Path C:\Program Files\Common Files\McAfee\SystemCore\mfefire.exe

Once we have all that out of the way, do at least a Steam Verify - preferably a full clean reinstall again.

I am sorry this is taking so long, this one is unique!

Tried without all that long before. Still crashes. Tried with selective boot up. Have done Multiple reinstalls before. Tried it without my Nvdia software also. I have tried playing it without my anti-virus even installed. It's not the background tasks. Not unless it's part of a windows Process.

So I was going through my list of installed Windows programs looking to delete something and I noticed 2 Microsoft VC++ Programs running at the same time. Was like, o_O
Deleted one of them and so far it seems the game is stable. Played for near two hours. Wish me luck!
