Units with overwatch use overwatch automatically if they have movement points left. Default now is defensive mode. It's a pain to set overwatch every turn.
That probably wouldn't work, since you need to set the direction for overwatch and units moving into cover usually are not facing the correct direction.

When checking the location of sectors from the diplomacy screen (because, eg, I want to trade for one), either allow me to switch lenses or always show the economy lens. Right now you can't see the economy lens without cancelling out of diplomacy and finding the sector manually.

This has been said before but I'll put it here as well:

* Don't deselect units when zooming out to map view.
* Make the different layers of the map view toggable instead of mutually exclusive.

I also want to say I agree with pretty much all the suggestions made in this thread.

Resources gahtered in the world map (energy, production, etc...) always go to the nearest city, but sometimes you're not sure which city is it. It would be nice to have that information in the same pop-up, like "145 food- goes to Metropolis".

Also, the minimap needs some love. I would like a slider to "center" the map wherever I like, since you can circle the world in the east / west directions. I'm in a campaign mission where my "continent" is half on the left and half on the right in the minimap, and it's mildly annoying. Some way to toggle armies in the minimap, and zoom in / out of it to see zones in detail would be a nice addition.

I know the notifications pop-up is cluttered, but I miss some information like "The population in Megacity has increased". Maybe include tickboxes in the options menu to filter those you don't want to appear in notifications.

Also, I had an AI opponent offer me to introduce me to another AI player I haven't discovered, but I didn't have the option to do that for another AI that didn't discover another AI i already met. This could be nice to open diplomatic options.

Here is one that constantly bugs me:

Put "skip unit animation" on SPACE key or similar. But away from right click. I cannot count the amount of times, I right click a bit too much and then turn switches just in that moment and I accidentally send the first selected unit across the battle right into the enemy.

Minimap: Add pixels for army locations. Just like a standard RTS game map.

For console version: In combat, have the default ability be the one last one used. example: If I had this unit melee last turn, start the next turn with melee selected. Also tabbing between abilities should be sufficient to select them rather than tabbing and pressing x. It would make checking ranges much quicker.
in city management: tabbing over to building production and then scrolling down to the bottom of the list to produce energy is annoying. Maybe click left stick to produce energy, right stick for research. Click and hold to set to produce indefinitely.
For template management: Allow me to choose whether to overwrite a template or save a new one. It is annoying when I have to choose a new name for the updated template then go and delete the old one every time.

In the settings you can turn off the automatic pass to next unit, that should help alleviate this issue.

The strange thing is that the game rembers your selected AI difficulty, but forgets all your other settings.

Anyway, the game remembering your setttings should be a no brainer.

"continue" campaign doesn't work for me. Every day, it shows about 10 games that are from today, it might be something to do with cloud saves being synced or something. So when I hit continue, it will pick the wrong one, despite me only playing one campaign yesterday. There is a long wait to 'login and sync cloud saves' every time I fire up the game. I am really trying to turn off cloud saves, having deselected them in options, but it still happens.

Please put a close or "X" button on the colony panel, to be consistent with other UI.

Have double-click on a colony in "Colony Overview" open the colony panel.

During the definition of a new modded unit, when clicking on the automatically proposed icon the list jumps to the "Amazon" category. It would be preferable if the category stays that of the suggested icon.

In the settings you can turn off the automatic pass to next unit, that should help alleviate this issue.

For those who prefer to have it turned on though, could you please introduce a ~200ms grace period, where the input doesn't register? I like the idea of this mechanic, but right now it's way too prone to misclicks. If I - accidentally - right click thrice instead of twice, the last command will carry over to the next unit and make them go into middle of nowhere. It would be very convenient to have the last command not proceed if it was issued in a very short time (aka a grace period) after a new unit was selected. Nobody has reactions fast enough to make a decision so quickly, but plenty have fingers fat enough to send their units to death by accident.

Alternatively, make them not damage friendly units. None of the other factions have this obvious weakness with their turrets that their enemy has full control over exploiting.
