So here's the thing:

We're working on the compatch for Charlemagne.

The issue at the moment is the history files. There are a LOT of changes to the files, and thousands of files to sift through if we also want to retain all the other changes we've made in previous iterations (which we do). Even if we ignored everything related solely to the new bookmark, we'd still need to sift through the files to pick out the changes not related to it, so we may as well do everything at once.

So if you guys are interested in getting the compatch in a reasonable amount of time, we could use some help.

WHAT YOU WOULD NEED:

* Winmerge or Notepad++, something that lets you see the differences between files.
* A backup of the 2.1.6 version of the mod -- if you don't currently have one, you can back up to that version through Steam and then save a copy of it in a separate folder. Then you can restore your master copy of the game. That will give you the previous versions of all the history files for comparison.

If you're willing to help out, let us know. We can provide a list of which files need updating, and you can claim however many you feel comfortable with. Any files which seem like they're too complex, and which need more than just a few entries copied over, can be ignored so long as you tell us about it when you send the rest of the files...we can look at those individually, if need be.

If we don't get any help, we'll certainly press on...but the process will take longer than we initially figured.

OK, I'll get started on history\characters.

In the case of character name differences for characters between CK2+ and vanilla 2.2.x, which name should I keep? In many cases these are because a character was changed e.g. from frankish to old_frankish.

And for those characters who spawn event troops, do you want the new values for match_mult and the like, or should I keep the old CK2+ values?

//Edit: Done with all Arabs, Andalusians, muslim Visigoths, Persians. With the above questions of course. Now working on merging in changes CK2+ made to former Iberians and Occitans to Visigothic.

I started work on the history\characters as well. I've started from the top and am working down the list. skipped bedouin_arabic, bengali, castillan, and catalan as they had a lot of changes in them and I'm new at this so I decided not to mess with them. Jordarkelf which files are you working on so we don't end up going over the same.

Is there someplace for me to send or place the files I've finished? Also I think someone with more experience in this should probably look them over to make sure I didn't screw up anything major.
I changed the names if names were changed but I did not change the troop spawn stuff.

Did you see that several characters were moved between georgian and armenian?

You've got to make sure you haven't introduced any duplicates.

That's why I did all the Arabs together first, and now all the Iberians -- and the same problem will exist with frankish/dutch/german since a lot of their characters will now be old_frankish, frisian, or old_saxon.

Pretty much i've just been comparing the old 2.1.6 files with the new 2.2 beta files then I make changes to the 2.1.6 ck2+ files that i found between the two base files. I have no clue how to merge so its just been deleting and copying by hand for me. I might have messed up some characters stats by doing this. So i'm pretty sure i've been removing the duplicates since i've been deleting a lot of characters.

Excellent -- this actually finishes off the character history entirely (I've been working on it, as well). Ragnin -- please still send me yours, so I can compare it to what we have currently, in case anything was missed.

I suppose what would be easier is claiming a section before work begins on it, so we don't duplicate our efforts. The parts that remain to be done at this point are:

* title history: counties between "H" and "Z"
* province history: anything starting with "2" or higher (meaning the first number of the province ID)

Loup claimed province histories beginning with "2" this morning, and I'll start work on those beginning with "3".

For province history, Loup brought up a good question -- if the max # of settlements in the mod is different, leave it. We've "split" a good number of the provinces, so that'll probably be why it's like that (and we'll have to go in later and update the provinces which are only in the mod). If you encounter a province that's really different, as in the baronies have completely different names, just leave it and report it as such when you upload the rest of the files...we'll have to give those ones special attention.

Done all of the ones starting on "2". Minor notes (can change this back if needed or if you find any issues with these):
  • Left all of the jewish community modifiers
  • Left all post 1200 history CK2+ data intact
  • Some holdings have some additional buildings in the CK2+ data (not mentioned in vanilla history) left those
  • #2, Austisland, holdings are not corresponding leaving that one
  • #22, Oxford has some different holding names, think that is from CK2+, left that intact
  • #232, Montferrato also has that, left that too
  • £233, Genoa, same as previous
  • #29, Devon, has a cornish culture, left that

I wouldn't mind helping out if you still need it, but I don't quite get what needs to be done. I get the history files from last patch and this patch and from the mod then copy over the changes between the last patch and mod to the new history files?

Essentially, yes.

You look at the differences in the files between vanilla 2.1.6's history files and 2.2.0.1's history files (WinMerge is great for this) and manually copy over the differences to the mod's version of those files.
