I haven't played in a long time, right at DD release I believe, and when I did play the only mod I stayed with was HSR which seems to be dead. I've just purchased Armageddon and looking for a new mod to replace HSR.

I've browsed about 10 pages of the forums and pretty much gathered that the main mods that interest me is TRP, Compendium, CORE, 1914, and EWW.

What are the main differences in these mods? Browsing their change logs doesn't tell me much since their so very long and now post AA.

The more in-depth the better for me, I love events, micromanaging, and I read about advanced tech trees which interests me though I don't know which mods have the advanced trees.

1914 seems very compelling to me since I have never played a WWI game ever, and about five hundred WWII games. But how in-depth is 1914? Does it have most of the features of the other mods?

Thanks for any help, hoping the paradox community is as helpful as always.

1914 is in-depth, allright. But I'm not gonna compare it with other Mods. If you want WW1 experience- go for it.

I didn't play CORE, becouse I like long battles and sprites.

EWWT seems to be too unrealistic, becouse it gives units to AI countries and aircrafts can wipe out whole divisions. Aircrafts should mostly be used for org reduction, IMO.

TRP and Compendium are similar in many ways. They are most realistic. Long battles. But Compendium runs faster. TRP is just too slow.

That's my two cents, regards.

No, time runs very slowly.

Well, slightly biased since I share in the 1914 development effort:

1914 is currently a mod that is very alive with continuous development going on. It is certainly totally different from the other mods since it deals with WWI and has a very detailled 1897 scenario that goes through all the conflicts of the late 19th and early 20th century.

As a taste:
Mahdi war in Sudan
Spanish American war
Boer wars
Russo Japanese war
Italian-Turkish war
Both Balkan wars

So give it a try!

Sounds like CORE is your cup of tea then... :) I do think the current quote in the HoI2 Wiki pretty much sums it up:
The Community Open Resource Exchange for Hearts of Iron 2. One of the major mods for HoI2. CORE aims to make Hearts of Iron 2: Doomsday (or Armageddon) a more historically accurate and involving game, through expanded and more detailed tech trees, corresponding units, tech teams and a large number of events, reflecting both historical actions and possibilities. Both Industrial Capacity („IC‟) and resources for the entire game have been revised to better reflect reality in the late 1930s. Other features include reserve divisions instead of militia (a reserve unit is less mobile, and has less heavy weapons - such as artillery. These units form the mainstay of the armies of the minor and semi-industrialized countries), rares scarcity, SS recruitment, 1:1 naval ship representation and negative resource production (representing civilian spoilage of energy and oil).

At the same time it contains as few „gamey‟ mechanics as possible and aim to adhere as close as possible to design philosophy and game limitations set down by Paradox themselves for the original game. One thing to definitely remember when playing CORE is that everything is much more connected than in vanilla – from tech trees to events, in between the various tech trees and between tech trees and events. Seemingly small choices can have big impact – regardless if it is a choice in which techs to pursue to choices in events. Not all decisions are in the hands of the player either. And, as in real life, everything comes at a price.

The basic CORE installer includes generic graphics for techs, tech teams, leaders, ministers and models that have been updated to fit the latest release. There are also optional packages to download with an even greater amount of graphics available, such as country-specific model graphics. These come in two versions – black and white as well as color.

That's not correct. Did you try the mod ?

Which kind of mod are you looking for, defcon ? Do you use arma or DD ?
There are some others nice mods (not well known but still nice) such as Epsilon Project, HiP...
I honestly don't recommend you 1914, the others you've quoted are all okay.

That's my two cents, regards.

With the new arma 1.2 patch TRP seems to be running on normal speed. Plus you can also just play with counters and disable spirits, and that way the games runs a bit faster too, and also sleep the news events at the start of the game.

I have Arma, so CORE is more in-depth than TRP? I downloaded TRP and was going to give it a go last night but didn't have the time, tonite I suppose. I have a second clean install though to try something else, possibly CORE if it's more in-depth than TRP.

CORE and TRP have both their qualities, we can't really say if one is better (TRP's AI is better but the mod is slow, CORE tech tree is better for some and too complicated for some others, IMVHO TRP's graphics are not the best etc). Just give them a try or look at some AARs and players feedbacks.
But still, you did not really answer to my question (and i think it would help you to find the mod that fits you the most) : what are you looking for ? Something radically different than vanilla ? Something close to vanilla which fixes some annoying things ? A better AI ? More entertaining events and tech tree ? etc.

I'm more into TRP and Compendium, since I like their battle system and they are very challenging without giving the AI unfair advantage (such as free divisions etc.)...and the news' events are very nice too

CORE is nice, but I find it to be enjoyable only with the major powers because the tech trees are so limiting when it comes to minors...and the tech trees can be confusing sometimes too

I've never played vanilla so can't say very much, when I played I only played HSR which I loved. I like lots of events and complicated tech trees are fine with me. I'm downloading CORE and will take a look at that, I only played TRP for a bit so didn't get a feel for it but I didn't like the graphics very much, especially the big TRP thing across the UI bar.

Make sure you get hold of one of the graphic pack add-ons as well (we kept the main installer as small as possible). AI is somewhat on the weak side in 0.3.2 (though better than Vanilla), and the upcoming release will see a TRP stype AI and even better graphics coverage, amongst others. And make sure to check out the manual. If you have any questions or suggestions feel free to ask, either in the CORE subforum here or on our own forum: www.terranova.dk. I do hope you like the mod! :)
