So in a nation of c. 4 million (adult males), I have about 1.1 million possible Communist Rebels. I can't enact any reforms because the fact that a full quarter of my population ( as Greece into Byzantium, btw - controlling all the cores, plus Gjirokaster, with Bosnia-Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Albania, and Egypt sphered if it helps any) belongs to a subversive terrorist group that wants to brutally murder every aristocrat and capitalist they can find isn't enough for the damned Conservatives. I'm already facing 10-brigade Jacobin and 30-brigade Anarcho-Liberal revolts once every three or four years, and now I have about 70 possible Communist brigades on top of that. The fact that only about 1 percent of my nation's people actually supports Communism seemingly doesn't factor in to the massive rebel spawn.

I googled it, but the only thing I could find was "HURR DURR DERP HERPADURR STALN IZ BEST BOW DWN 2 COMMUNIZUM ONEONEONE," so I'm pretty much at the end of my tether here, and at this point, I'm pretty sure that "legitimate" in-game stuff won't work, so I'm going to ask this: Is there any way I can just go into the game files and change the rebel support thingy directly in there? If I can do that, what, exactly, do I change?

Unfortunately, I don't have the event or decision expertise to help you too much, but you could also consider just creating an event that gives your country like -10 revolt risk or something along those lines. That's assuming you want to keep it relatively limited. If you want to eliminate Communists around the world, then you would probably need a much more complicated script for that.

Sometimes, the rebels in Vicky 2 can really get out of hand - and the political system can leave you in a real rut despite the fact that in real life, politicians would probably react differently.

-10 revolt risk works for me, assuming I could spam it. I'd have done something like that myself, but I have pretty much no idea how to mod anything that is at all more complex than copypasting the "Unlockable" nations in Medieval II: Total War to the "Playable" section. Would you know how to code the event, and what folder/whatever to stick it in? If so, thanks in advance. If not, thanks anyway.

Heck if you have some spare time, you could probably read through the quick questions that are already there and it would give you a decent guide. Additionally, all of the Paradox grand strategy games run off the same engine, so if you find a guide for EU3 or EU4 or CK2 or HOI3, they would all operate about the same as the events for Vicky 2.

Medieval II: Total War was my first experience editing game files, too :p Or maybe it was Rome: Total War... either way - I feel your pain.

Quick, easy and dirty fix could be to just add -10 RR (or how many you want) through triggered modifier (with some dumb modifier like your actual capital or a player only check) or mod in your difficulty setting. Unfortunately I have no Paradox games installed in that computer yet and I don't know by heart syntax for that kind of thing.

I started by moding medieval 2 too :p Though, then I started modding heavily Empire TW; I probably spent as much time modding it than actually playing it. Beware of modding, you start tweaking one single file and then it kinda ends up like Civ "one more file (turn)" until you've modded 'em all :)

Have either the most popular party in power or the conservative party( of course there will be rebels when a communist party is in power!). Make sure the people are getting their needs. Did you pass a reform?
I can't pass reforms because the fact that a full quarter of the country belongs to a subversive terrorist organization who's stated modus operandi is to murder and/or exile every aristocrat and bourgeois in the nation and rule over a collectivist-anarchist state isn't enough for the damn Conservatives.

Also, I kinda thought that changing the government to Communist would appease the damn Communists. Shows what I know. At any rate, I managed to power through the initial rebellion, and now I just face three-brigade rebellions once a year or so, so I keep roving kill-squads whose sole purpose is to butcher their way through every Red Guard rebel in the Balkans. Even my enemies' Red Guard revolutionaries.

Just pray and hope those rebels are minorities so you can have a more homogeneous population which will lead to less militancy in the long run.

What are the leading reforms asking for? Your militancy is actually quite a bit lower than I would have expected for that kind of rebellion.

And you said these rebels are a mixture of Jacobin, Anarcho-Liberal, and Communist? Your government is currently Communist?

What are the leading reforms asking for? Your militancy is actually quite a bit lower than I would have expected for that kind of rebellion.

And you said these rebels are a mixture of Jacobin, Anarcho-Liberal, and Communist? Your government is currently Communist?
That's just it, nobody's really asking for any reforms. A thousand people here who want Wealth Voting, five thousand there who want Censored Press, barely a small minority. Jacobin rebels have about 4k each time they rebel, and they tend to rebel once every 3 or 4 years, so it's usually just 1 or 2 brigades that rebel, but they're very annoying. Anarcho-Liberal usually manages a good 15-20 brigades, but not that hard to deal with once I marshal my forces. Communist rebels did have about 150 brigades, but I managed to smash them after my standing army remained loyal and I mobilized. It ended up as a hundred-thousand-man on hundred-thousand-man brawl in the Anatolian highlands, but I did it.

Now, they technically have about 550k people and about 200 possible brigades, down from the 1.1 million and 450 or so possible brigades they rebelled with, but they tend to rebel at the 10/12-brigade 'Ready to join in the general rising' mark, most of them in Anatolia, which is usually about once a year now. I guess the fact that the Turkish majority there isn't an accepted culture has something to do with it, and Communist rebels pop up pretty much everywhere the Turks are (Which is, sadly, most places, since Turks make up about 60 percent, give or take, of my population), which is why only the Greek heartlands remained un-rebelled in that screenshot.

Now, as for government, I'm HM's Government, so I switched to Communism in the hopes that all the Communists would settle down, at least for a while. That didn't happen, so I tend to switch between Reactionary and Liberal - Reactionary for the generally good policies and Liberal so the pops don't vote Socialist in voting season. I tried Socialist for about a year, because it was the only one I had with "Full Citizenship," but I found that I couldn't subsidize my factories and about a quarter of them died as a result.

Also, don't ask me why the Ottoman capitol is in northern Bulgaria, I don't know.

Well, yea you probably do have a massive amount of minorities vs. the accepted cultures. Really, when someone creates a Byzantine Empire in a mod, they should include a way to have a more inclusive empire.

Honestly, I don't know what to recommend. You could try restarting and see if it is just something that you can't avoid. I don't know for sure that it is a cultural problem (Turks just want to create problems because they are unrecognized minorities), or something has happened which has pretty much permanently destabilized your empire.

In vanilla, Jacobins and Anarcho-Liberals are always a problem no matter what you do. However, you should be able to keep the communists down without having to kill all of them.

It wasn't a mod I created Byzantium in. In the base game, if Greece becomes a Great Power, they get the "King of Kings, Ruler of Rulers" decision that requires having all the Greek cores (Except the Ionian islands, and maybe Cyprus), the cores granted by the Megali Idea decision, and Konya. If they take the decision, the country changes to Byzantium, their capitol changes to Istanbul, and Istanbul is renamed to Constantinople. The political parties also get renamed.

But yeah, my problem is probably the Turkish majority (They were a slight minority, having 47 percent of the population as opposed to the Greek 48.5 percent, but they've grown to have about 60 percent of the population now) getting uppity that they're not an accepted culture. Bulgarian and Albanian minorities too, but they're tiny, having maybe three combined percent of the population, and don't rise up that much. I don't suppose you've any tips on gaining accepted cultures faster?

I wouldn't listen to him if he doesn't know that you can form the Byzantine Empire in vanilla. You cannot gain accepted cultures in vanilla. Make sure your people are getting their needs and your party is conservative. If your economy is great, then there should be little militancy. The Turks pose a major problem, let them rebel and whittle their numbers down.
