I just finished a playthrough with communist china in the 1933 scenario during a alt history civil war, and the results I got made me certain that the only way to "win" with communist china is by starting in the 1945 scenario and waiting for the soviets to crush japan and giving you manchuria (This can also happens in the 1944 scenario, tough it is less likely)

The problem that we have is that communist china doesn't receive the units of the kuomitang army and neither have conditions to build enought of it's own, and as soon you defeat the nationalists, Japan comes in kicking your door

Take this print for example, I got all the units that the communist chinese have access during the gameplay, (except one militia that got destroyed in the fourth enciclement campaign, but it is irrelevant). I pushed the nationalists all the way to north shandong without making any encirclement since I wanted all their units to use against the japanese, then after waiting a victory event for weeks after capturing all their victory points I decided to annex it aaaaaaand all their units dissapeared, and japan declared war, while I got only 46 divisions and less than 40 IC (while japan got 142)

iirc at scenario start Japan starts with a very small amount of brigades, not anywhere near 142. The AI is set to aggressively build divisions and also iirc Japan AI gets some free ones via event closer to the start of historical marco polo. Japan AI tends to not bring over most of their brigades. You should be able to push them out of China if you prepared for it (build militia + art, it is cheap enough to do with 40 IC). I believe when playtesting I found that an early war Japan AI was pretty easy to steamroll over as CHC (the requirement is you must finish very early before the AI events giving them units fires, and you need to build militia to cover the beaches. Basically the strategy is cover beaches, encircle around Beijing in north). You should in theory also be getting united front event iirc unless it was changed or I messed up on the triggers.

1xInf + 2x Mil on each coast province can hold the beaches if they have art brigades with them. Have a 2 reserves of 3x mil that you can strategically redeploy to a province under amphibious assault (I think you also have some cav brigades you can use as strategic reserve) to assist the 3 garrison. Set all militia to upgrade to infantry so they slowly convert when they get reinforced.

You don't receive units of the KMT army because none of those units would join communists historically. You DO get Guangxi/Guangdong Clique troops though if you accepted New Fourth Army Defection.
