What are the requirements for it firing? I'm playing as France and I think history got off it's rails at some point because I got none of those Louis Napoleon events (the coup failed). There was no spanish inheritance crisis because Prussian and Russia were at war during that time. So I manualy DOWd them and let them take paris. Three hurrahs for german empire happened in 1873. So...will the Paris Commune event fire, or will it not? Looking at the event files, the trigger for the event is the Fall of The French Empire event, which in turn is triggered by losing a war to Prussia. I suppose the pre-scripted German unification script counts....or does it? Is the event chain broken because there apparently was no French Empire?

To confirm, which version of Victoria are you playing : 1.4 or Revolutions? The two versions have important differences IIRC, so need to know which version you are playing.

Fall of French empire happens only if the historic War takes place. So without the Spanish Crisis setting the stage for war, the triggers will not be met for the French Empire to fall and thus no commune. Yes France will lose Alsace so Germany can form, but in this formulation at least there is no collapse of the French empire.

As France, the Commune never fired because I blocked Germany from getting anywhere near Paris (or even into France - I maxed out my forts in A/L).
The drawback: I remain a ConMon for the rest of the game. Could somebody devise a mod for France where the Third Republic fires after 1871 even if Paris doesn't fall?
I certainly am not going to "allow" the Prussians to march through just so I get to be a Democracy!

IMHO you're better off as a con-mon

You can still do all the reforms to reduce popular MIL (suffrage, full unions etc) yet still retain the flexibility of being able to appoint a governmnent whose policies you want if the POPs decide to put in a government you don't want.

With a democracy, whatever the vox populi says, you are stuck with.

And so long as your POP mil levels are mellow, the one-off +1.00 MIL hit for changing the ruling party can be worked off fairly quickly.

But, what don't you move manually to Democracy from Con-Mon ?
what is the interest to have it through event (apart from the historical aspect) ?

I've never fully understood how to switch - could it be explained again?

yep : from con-mon to go to a democracy you need to go through a dictatorship either presidential or proletarian. I advise presidential as proletarian has the bad habits to remove 50% of your capis ...
So the path is : constitutional monarchy -> presidential dictatorship -> democracy.

1. Con-mon to dictatorship : you need either a reactionary, fascist or anarcho-liberal party in power + universal suffrage, on the 1st of the next month the above triggers are verified you'll change constitution and move to a presidential dictatorship.
2. Presidential dictatorship to democracy : you need universal suffrage + public meeting allowed + free parties, again the 1st of the next month you'll move to a democracy.
Last step : stay in democracy. for this you need to ensure to have a non extreme party in power or no universal suffrage, as you come from a dictatorship you've both, so if you do nothing one month later you fall again in a dictatorship. the easiest way is to remove universal suffrage and put wealth, wait for election and obtain (certainly) a liberal party, then switch again to universal suffrage, that's it :)

all of the above is much better explained here and in correct English :eek:o

Count three months to achieve democracy and 5 years i guess to have universal suffrage again, ensure also at the begining of the process to have low militancy in most of your POP, just in case ...

In vanilla Ricky the 'Fall of the French Empire' event will not fire even if they lose to Prussia in 1870-1871.

There is a trigger requirement that France had to lose a war to Prussia.
There is not enough time for the event to fire (offset = 30) between the time of the loss to Prussia and when Prussia gets 'Three Hurrahs' and becomes Germany - and by then, Prussia no longer exists and the requirement will never be met.

I tried firing it manually in the console and got the msg "PRU does not exist".

The trigger conditions need to be changed, or perhaps by adding a trigger event command to the Three Hurrahs event.
