Commintern font in For The Motherland

Since Semper Fi, the Faux Cyrillic font is used for Comintern countries, which is quite annoying to read for anybody who knows Russian or any language using Cyrillic letters.

When you decided to stylise this expansion in a bit Soviet way, maybe it's also the time to make the default Comintern font something more serious?

Whilst I grasp your pain, the problem is, for the rest of the world the real Cyrillic would be unreadable. Becaus we are too dumb to even know the alphabet.

I don't suggest replacing it with Cyrillic, I just want some other font that may have something of Russian style in it, but doesn't use Cyrillic letters as if they were Latin ones.

i wasn't being sarcastic, i was totally serious, this is about as clos as they can get and we English still read it - saving a minority of well educated people who are linguists or interested in that sort of thing

I know how you feel. Very first post I had after SF was released was a way to mod that faux cyrillic out and others came up with solutions better than mine that don't change the checksum.

You, and I, and others who can read cyrillic are in the minority. We'll have to accept that that a lot of others think the font is cool and adds to the flavor rather than subtracts from it. We've seen the pictures up through the latest developer's diary and know that unless there is a last minute surprise, a real cyrillic font is not to be.

Rest assured it's easily moddable to other game fonts, that while they don't add to the flavor at least don't take anything away from it.

I actually quite like the Faux Cyrillic Fonts as I find it adds to the atmosphere in the same way that the Axis and Allies fonts do. But I can understand that for Cyrillic speakers/writers it could be annoying, in the same way I get annoyed at US spellings being used for English words. (There is no British English. There is English, and there is American English! ^^) Hopefully a solution can be found that suits everybody.

I think the Axis font is annoying. It looks like something out of an 18th century book. Not like something the Nazis would ever use. The Nazis were fans of fascist-modernist font styles which looked good on monumental architecture, but not those playful old fonts.

It's just as "wrong" but still to most people it adds flair, so you end up having to accept it...

I think the Axis font is annoying. It looks like something out of an 18th century book. Not like something the Nazis would ever use. The Nazis were fans of fascist-modernist font styles which looked good on monumental architecture, but not those playful old fonts.

It's just as "wrong" but still to most people it adds flair, so you end up having to accept it...

Maybe it's a little to much, but only a little. I personally love the fonts.
And they were used in that timeframe.

I see the issue for Cyrrilic-readers, while realizing that Faux Cyrillic is liked by the majority - in the same vein as I find this hilarious, while my Hindi-speaking girlfriend see no humour in it whatsoever...

Funny, here in the states I can remember being told there is Queen's (or King's) English and American English (not to mention that Canadian English isn't quite either of those...not sure about the other English Speaking former colonies...)

This post makes completely no sense at all. He never said you were being sarcastic. He is saying that he DOESN'T want Cyrillic letters to be used in the game, he isn't saying he wants the names to be in actual Russian, he JUST WANTS TO GET RID OF THOSE USELESS LETTERS (just like me). Atleast add a god damn option to turn off this whole font stuff and stop making my eyes bleed.

Okay, what I meant was that English (as spoken/written in Britain) is the original "English" language, and then other countries have their own variations. As opposed to what many games, websites etc seem to work on, where "English" is American English spellings (color instead of colour for example) and then if you are very lucky, you might get a British English option, which is the original English Spellings.

But I'm getting this thread off topic, sorry.

Okay, you have a point. Bad example, I just used it as everyone always seems to use that one.

And I've got no problem with Americans using American English, nor any other place using it's own regional version of a language. Reginal dialects make life interesting, heck we have dozens of them in the British Isles alone. It's when that (US) version's treated as the original language that it gets a bit tiresome. But I'm really getting offtopic now, back to fonts.

When will we be getting the wingdings font pack for HOI3? :rofl:

It is nice to be able to tell which countries are part of which faction at a glance, but unless I'm mistaken the Allies and the non-aligned countries are all the same font. As for the Axis font, I guess people still associate the Blackletter typeface with Germany, but I agree that a more "modern"-looking font would be better - and by modern I mean 1920's/30's.

Sorry, but there's no plan to change this. While I understand it looks silly to Cyrillic readers, to everyone else it looks nicely "Russian" which was the point of the faction fonts.

And Allied/unalligned have different fonts.

but it is exactly the font the germans used back then. sometimes it is even used today for the name of newspapers for example. in some cases it was used until the late 1980 for example in law books.

The problem isn't just it being silly, it's actually unreadable when you know Cyrillic letters well. Faux Cyrillic substitutes correspond to completely different Cyrillic letters from the Latin ones they replace as look-a-likes.

F.e. ЯUSSIД automatically associates with Yaussid, not Russia.
MOИGOLIД - Moigolid, not Mongolia
TДИИU TUVД - Tdiiu Tuvd, not Tannu Tuva
It becomes deciphering instead of reading.

That Red October font would actually be a nice substitute. It still brings the same associations and is readable for everybody.

I get that, others have complained about it, but it's not like you're not going to know which country is the USSR That Red October font is nice, but I don't think it will be possible to change at this point.
