Some people have surmised that the bug that means you have little or zero commercial (blue) demand is linked with parks. Well I was just watching one of 'Skyestorms' videos where he did a livestream over the weekend and I saw it happen! Because he was just using a 'play city' for the livestream, he'd not developed it as he (or most of us) normally would, and after reaching over 20k in population, he decided that he must put some parks in before he finished. Thing is, just before that, I'd noticed the blue RCI was at max and I was wondering how it was so high, then Skye plopped 4 carparks he'd made and before my eyes the blue indicator literally dropped by HALF!

So, there's obviously a connection here, I wonder if a value has been reversed, is it possible that some figure is a minus number instead of a plus, or vice versa? I'm thinking that surely commercial demand would go UP if parks were placed as it would attract more people, tourists, etc and drive up land value so boost the economy as well but clearly, the exact reverse is happening. I hope the Dev's can get it sorted.

If you want to see what I mean, go here- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U7meAjkAGIk and watch from the 18 minute mark. In a minute and a half, you'll see the blue demand half!

Like in SimCity 2013, if there is no commercial around then parks satisfies their shopping needs. Thing is, its tuned way to high so that commercial is not needed. I'm actually rebuilding my city with no parks just to have commercial.

Sure, you can do that but then you won't be able to use any asset thats been basically designed as 'eye candy' if theyre based on the parks platform. So that means, no user made parking lots, container yards, etc. Not a solution in my eyes and I just hope a real fix is forthcoming.

I was suspecting the same thing ...
Sim City 2013 has a similar mechanism, with parks creating happiness free of charge and shops creating happiness if Sims have enough money to buy something.

Encountered the problem as well in my current game.
Added enough parks so the Recreation map showed blue for my houses and afterwards the commercial needs plummeted to zero.

I hope CO change the mechanism in a way that each house needs a certain minimum of "happiness" that only can be satisfied by shops
(so that, no matter how many parks you have around, your growing residential areas always develope a certain basic need for commercial zones)
