I've always felt let down by commercial buildings - always so little range. I'd really love to see lots of buildings that support community or the arts.

- Museums of course. Modern, classic, science museum, history museum,
- Art Galleries
- Community Centres
- Churches and places of worship
- Film centers
- Concert venues - medium to big arenas, concert halls (like Royal Albert Hall)
- Opera Houses
- Theatre districts
- Flea markets
- Aquarium
- Theme Parks, Zoos
- Arts centres (like Southbank?)

It could either be part of a strong tourist district, or change the face of a suburban area with a real tourist draw.

Would also love to see Commercial Zoning Types. Like a cafe lined, hip district for students vs a high class fashion and expensive strip for tourists. Big malls and big box suppliers that can support large suburban sprawls. Food markets and market strips like London's Portobello Rd? Even restaurant districts and even a Chinatown.

Car Parks could be a necessary evil - the more attractions, the more traffic and parking needed, the more ugly car parks that need to go up or be zoned.

Anyway - just some thoughts on making the cities more diverse and cultural. I'm sure there are other ideas out there!

I personally don't think these should be commercial buildings. These should be ploppable tourist attractions or something.

I agree with some of it. As long as the game can recognise that you're making a theatre district, or grouping restaurants, or markets. I don't want every district to be the same as the next and with the same old shops throughout

I have an idea.

In cities which have a large tourism industry, things like art galleries and opera houses and arts districts can grow in commercial zones (and close to public transport and civic buildings). Maybe (in a mod or expansion which could further develop this aspect of the game), there should be a separate 'commercial demand' called 'tourism demand'. Once a city sets up lots of big tourism events (stadiums, theme parks, adequate air/rail/bus transport), commercial can get involved with the fun and do a few things too.

Simcity 2013 did have a few elements of this which I really enjoyed playing around with. The only problem was that the city sizes were too small to build a truly complex and beautiful tourism town. In this game, with bigger maps, hopefully we can do much more like quaint little seaside villages, bustling shopping malls, theatre strips and redlight districts which attract different clientele of different wealth levels. For example, theatre, art galleries and opera houses attract a low number of $$$ tourists, shopping malls and beach strips with hotels attract large amounts of $$ (middle income) visitors and families, and redlight districts and casinos can bring in less-educated, $ people.
In addition, the way that they get to the city can depend on their wealth. $$$ demand airports, $$ are fine with planes, rail or car, and $ drive or catch trains and buses.

Again, something for CO and/or modders to consider waaay past the release of the game, but also worth looking into as a possible expansion pack.

Actually, yes I do agree with that. You can plop stadiums, landmarks, theme parks, zoos and so on but then commercial buildings can do their part an become theatres, hotels, souvenir shops and stuff. This would be really nice if it was in game.

Perhaps certain ploppables lead to different types of buildings popping up. Something like an Opera House can have other theatres and high end eating. Something like a mega mall will have fast food and kiwk-e-marts.

Or perhaps more like the amusement parks in SimCity 2013. You can set aside an area for, say, flea markets. And it can keep growing and you will need more space.

In the end, I think the main thing is very different districts. Theatre districts, suburban mall strips, red light districts, student/university area, etc, etc. That would be awesome. Those kinds of districts don't happen by accident either - majors and councils decide what the area will be. So maybe it's a bigger setting in the game? Kind of like choosing a specialty in SC13.
