I went mid-tier for the music and the space spiders (which I ink look really cool).

Look at this fat-cat with his fancy standard version pre-order. Some of us can't afford to get the game until it probably goes on sale several months from now. No bonus races for me.

Paradox has historically made the preorder bonus a DLC you can buy later. You can get it and the base game for X% off if you are waiting.

I never buy "special" editions. I made an exception this one time and got the Nova edition, because the separate soundtrack is actually something with utility value for me (unlike the extra cosmetics, I'm indifferent to those). Is that worth an extra $10USD ? I don't know, but I also feel that if anyone deserved more (voluntarily-given) money for their games, it's Paradox. I mean, I spent $50USD on Civ:BE, and I "only" clocked 72 hours with it. I suspect I'll get hundreds of hours out of Stellaris before the first post-release DLC.

Bought galaxy for me , standard for girlfriend. its just support for paradox, this game will get years of support from them and community, which is much more worth than 1 year triple AAA games(where supports stops after 1.5-2years and after 4-5 years servers go down while those games are 10 dollar/euro more expensive at starting prices than stellaris).
So even with galaxy i have a feeling i get more bang(hours of gameplay) for bucks

Nova edition icon is a nice blue, and for that reason is superior. Boo brown and gold.

Soundtrack was the biggest draw for me.
