1944, you can´t afford to reinforce lost equipment and you no longer have spare manpower. Can you simply merge 2 divisions to one, instead of dispanding one of them?

When manpower is low I think that you can change the template of the the infantry division, for example going from 4 battalion of INF to 2 battalion, then the standard division would be less powerful but you will gain some manpower and equipment to refit other divison.

This i what I've understood, but maybe I'm wrong .

Or more likely you disband some of your divisions and the manpower & equipment go back to the 'pool' which can be sent out as reinforcement to units in the field.

Either are probably possible. But,

1. If you reduce the number of battalions in the field, does the manpower and equipment immediately go back into a central pool, then take weeks to trickle back to the remaining battalions to bring them back to full strength?

2. Is there an org hit or other malus if you apply a new template?

3. Are you allowed to apply a new template while a Div is in combat, being strat. redeployed or is retreating? If you were allowed to apply the template during combat, then what if it was the other way, you increase the number of battalions, you then have new battalions in combat with no manpower/equipment.

4. If the manpower/equipment goes back into a central pool, what is to stop this bring spread-out to reinforce 100s of Divs, rather than the ones they came from?

1 - I think that it takes some weeks for manpower and equipment to get back to the central pool, also refitting the remaing battalions would take some times.

2 - Probably

3 - Almost certainly not, you have to wait for the division to be idle.

And for example if you change the global infantry division template, your existing infantry division would start the reorganization only if them are not fighting/retrating/strat redeploying.

4 - I don't know, I think it will spread out to reinforce all your division.

This is what I've understood so far, but maybe I'm totally wrong ;)

Merging would be interesting to be able to do in order to quickly transfer 2 or 3 mauled division of questionable combat capabilities into one division with full combat capability.

It would also be interesting to be able send materiel from one division to another to replace tank losses in one division at the cost of tanks in other divisions.

I'm figuring that this is the way it will be. Although I suppose a merging feature might be in the cards.

We don't have enough information on templates to know what other options there might be.

All good questions - I'm kinda hoping that (at some stage, probably not at release from what we've heard) we'll get the ability to combine and split divisions in the field, but suspect that there's a chance it's not part of the design. I'm expecting that they'll have to disband, they go back to a central pool, then come back again (and we'd need to set the divs we're combining to be priority for reinforcements).
