I was playing one game and an interesting alternate situation happened where Austria challenged Prussian leadership and had France allied with her in a war with Prussia and Italy. As a note Italy already had Rome annexed and didn't accept Austria's offer of neutrality. (in this situation I would think Austria might be less likely to offer it due to having an ally) In the end the Franco-Austrian alliance won with the Napoleonic triumph event firing causing the end of the war. I was thinking there should be some added events for this scenario and thinking how it could play out.
One thing would be that any annexed German minors get restored independance in this scenario. Also if the French and Austrians ally, would others on the sideline possibly join who might have something to gain like Denmark? I was thinking that German unification ends up failing or is done by someone else and that Austria gets back Lombardy from Italy. Would Italy fracture to a degree as well in this scenario? Maybe the Papal States gets restored and/or other italian minors gain independance. What about long term geopolitical consequences of this?
