I see what you are trying to do with the combat system but somehow it really isnt quite what it is supposed to be. The combat system is great for WWI but in WWII, i really find it unbelivable that 4 polish divisions can hold out for a week against 24 german divisions. Even without air support, this should be a crushing victory for the germans. Instead of changing the combat system, see if you can set the newer infantry divisions to achive more damage, so they can win battles more easily, since its really unbelivable for me i can't crush 4 Polish divisions with 24 of my combines arms armies, hence the blitzkrieg is practicly useless in this game

The combat system is fine, it was already used in WiF and produced a more realistic and challenging gameplay. You simply have to use it to your advantage...
Try to bind enemy forces in defensive operations, pick the best possible Schwerpunkt and use as much airforce as possible on that area. Do not think you can blitz by winning a battle swiftly. You blitz by rushing through the undefended countryside by using forces which are simply faster (not essentially better) than your opponents.

The combat system certainly tends towards micromanagement if you're wishing to orchestrate such specific tactical movements, which I could see posing a logistical problem in multiplayer. With the benefit of pausing, however, I should say the new system with its flaws is more interesting than a simple copy and paste of original HOI2 gameplay. We already own that game, old boy.
