Combat Events are very interesting addition of HOI2. :)

But, I think combat events must be related with leader skill or trait.

( Hm... If this topic had been already discussed or designed, sorry for repetition. :rofl: )

How about this idea?

1. Let's call the numbers which we can see at the overview screen in technology look, "Base Combat Event Modifier".

2. Get the skill + trait of highest rank general of each side. ( yea~ we can see his picture at top of battle screen. )

3. Calculation.

Base Combat Event Modifier * ( Skill of our general / Skill of enemy general + trait effect and etc... ) = Combat Event Modifier.

example)

Base breakthrough chance of German : 8%

Attacking force ( German ) : LV 3 Field Marshal leads 5 divs... He has trickster.

Defending force ( USSR ) : LV 4 FM leads 3 divs. He has defensive Doctrine. and, LV 5 LT.GEN leads 3 divs.

Real breakthrough chance = 8 * ( 3 / 4 + 0.5 - 0.1 ) = 9.2% ( 0.5 by trickster trait. 0.1 by defensive doctrine. )

The combat events are driven by your land doctrine techs. They are also affected by HQ units. As as far as i know leader traits dont affect combat events only combat bonuses. You can find my thread where i posted all 7 possible land tech paths a few weeks ago and see the bonuses for combat events there.

Oh~ You already did that work? Nice~!! :) . but... Actually, Doctrine is just a 'concept' of art of war.. Even the two generals read exactly same tactics, the gains of each one are far more different.

I don't think that Popov could breakthrough the defence of von Manstein, even if he had known all doctrines which were existed in 1940's.

Doctrine must affect the combat events with huge range of aspect. but... Under the same doctrine level, von Rundstedt and Guderian get same chance of combat event?

Hm... I think that leader skill or trait must be implemented with various kinds of combat events, not static combat bonus ( exp. 5% / level. )
