I have come to the conclusion that the colonynames.txt names are rather unevenly divided: the Hansa have a quite good and extensive list, Eire is not bad either, but Brittany, supposed to be a colonial power, has two; Montreal and Quebec. Meanwhile, Norway has zero! So, here is a thread to suggest more colony names: just add as you see fit.

NOR;Nye Oslo;87 #Manhattan
NOR;Sukkertoppen;Greenland
NOR;Dronningsby;? (NA?)
NOR;Nye Hamar;?
NOR;Nye Stavanger;?
NOR;Frøsø;? (Isle Royale, perhaps?)
NOR;Kongeby;?
NOR;Hammerfest;?
NOR;Vardøhus;?
NOR;Kongens Festning;?
NOR;Sankt Tomas;145
NOR;Sankt Martin;146

(All ? above are recommended for Any or North America)

Also, GER should have all of BAY's names.

EDIT: We could also copy-paste France's names from vanilla to the french minors to various degrees. Same with Spain and Asturias.

Brittany

I do not speak Breton, so if there are any speakers on the forums, please feel free to nag me for my horrible usage.

The provinces are unfortunately rather random, but I did a fair bit of research into each one. I'll probably find myself attempting some more later on. I've used modern Breton for the colony names as old Breton is difficult to find examples of or get translations of.

Also, why not use the default English colony names for Wessex? The majority of them should be decent.

Edit: New colony names shall be in italics.

Added all these. Thanks.

Added hundreds from the AGCEEP. Thanks also!

One big culture group we are missing is Occitan.

Anyone out there speak occitan or can suggest colony names for Occitania?

Actually, we also need Korean and Chinese names for colonies too.

i presume yoda might speak it , he is from the occitan area

Unless someone on the forums speaks Occitan, I think we're out of luck. Is there a language similar to Occitan that someone knows so that we could at least do a bad job of Occitan-ifying French place names? What Tayya posted seems to be the best we're going to get. :)
Also, you need to use enter more for the Breton colony names in the colony names file.
Nova does not mean new in Breton, or if it does it is never used for place names. Use the suffix -Nevez.
You haven't added the colony names I added a while back.

Thanks,

Actually I wrote to YodaMaster and he supplied a useful tool. There are a lot of Occitan names in the colonynames register now.

Wonderful.

Is there any chance you might review the Occttania (and Arles and languedoc) files and suggest where we might bring in actual Occitan names for things? This would include:

1. Event titles.

2. Names of acts or edicts or policies.

3. Simple functional words like 'king' etc.

Regards,

Matty

Just wondering, who did the swedish colonynames? Because some of them seem a bit weird.

I think I got them from AGCEEP, otherwise they were from Aberration.

Feel free to suggest changes.
