I think that colonization in game starts too fast. It is because christians get +1 colonist per year, meaning that when they got QFNTW they got 5 colonist ready to use, as they got nothing to do with them. If christians would not get such bonus it would made colonization more normalized, because before they would get colonist from their trade centers anyway, and as the western tech group countries can easily take new NI's they would just easily take the ideas like colonial ventures. And it would made all bordering horde nations, equal in colonization of them.

So what you think about, the idea of decreasing colonist for christians?

I think you should open up the file(s) defining the religions, edit them appropriately, and tell us how the game plays with that change :)

The Christians got the bonus, so they would colonise more then other religion groups (which is historic). Without it, colonisation would become nearly impossible without the QFTNW - 0.1 colonist a year for a CoT? Come on...

On the other hand now it is to fast, and in reality only a few countries colonised (Arguably, with something like QFTNW), and colonies did not grow so fast early on. I guess removing the +1 colonists would make the game more historic, but probably less fun.

I don't think it starts too early at all. I'm currently in 1595 as Japan and America is still very uncolonized compared with what happened in real life. So, if anything, it happens to slowly.
Check the 1600 starting date and take a look at the Spanish colonial empire.

and MANY of the countries that did colonize do not have coastal CoT's at the beginning of the game, so the only way they would get colonists is colonial ventures (qftnw doesnt give extra colonists)

Maybe remove the religion colonists directly, and replace them with triggered modifiers with the same effect if you have QFTNW? It'd stop early caching of colonists, and also stop, say, the Italian minors from colonizing South America.

or just throw the catholic colonist boost into qftnw and then just use colonial ventures for EXTRA colonists

It depend on game... in my prussia game they had like nothing in america, only portugal got a few colonies in the north america, but it is so because they did not took QFNTW. Only portugal did, and now france did took it, so i looks like they will gonna be colonizers. Castile just got into africa - conquered the moors... no single colony. But ussualy they end in colonizing alaska, as they did in my russia game.

Instead of the Christian bonus maybe countries should get a modifier that gives them colonists once the New World is discovered.

And maybe and event for the nations bordering Kola/Lappland to give them colonists to get those provinces.

After looking into the history files, Kola is not colonized until 1440, and Lapland until 1640. This is consistent with European nations not having a great deal of colonists to go around if they do not have QFTNW or CV. My suggested number is that QFTNW gives 1 colonist, and that CV gives two. These numbers are off the top of my head. The point of them is that however many colonists QFTNW gives, CV needs to give more, otherwise what point is taking CV over QFTNW?

I think the bonus based on religion is inaccurate. The push to discover (and then colonize) was driven by European trade being cut off from the Silk Road. I can't think of a perfect system to model this but perhaps the religion based bonus should be revoked and if a nation which owns a COT in Europe gets banned from trading in any COT that would be considered to be in part of the Silk Road then they would get the bonus. It would have to take into account any new COTs being built. Not sure if any of this is feasible...

Edit: Another alternative is to take away the religious bonus entirely and give the extra colonist to nations that have unoccupied north or south American provinces revealed to them by spread of discoveries.

I think those numbers will end up speeding up colonization even more, but if you wanna go that way, .5 colonists for qftnw and 1.5 for cv sounds a lot better imo (though I feel like if they were equal there would still be a reason to take cv, just only after you take qftnw)

I would actually state the exact opposite... Colonization starts too late.

Historically Columbus re-discovered America in 1492, but i never see Spain or any other European nation colonize the Caribbean at that time? Or is it just in my games?

Also
India has always been there. Trade relations with Europe (Greece, Mesopotemia and others), Africa ( Egypt and others), Asia( Tibet, China etc.) have existed since ancient times. So, no one discovered India - though a man named Vasco De Gama discovered the seaways to India in 1498. Again, I never see a seaway to India in 1498.

Maybe it's just in my games, and according to my own opinion that colonization is to late :)

the thing with your numbers is that it leads to MORE colonists than you could currently get now (with the basic things). right now its 1 from being catholic and 1 from cv, but your numbers lead to having easy access to 3 colonists a year, 1 from qftnw and 2 from cv, so it'd really make colonization happen even faster.
