1. Why all of a sudden in the 1670's did my suitability percentage for colonizing provinces in the New World drop to 1% suitability for most of the provinces? This regardless of if province had a level 1 or 6 trading post or was not colonized at all? To the best of my knowledge, nothing else had changed in the game, no stability hits, etc. One month most colonization percentages for the initial colony were in the range of 28-34%, next time I checked they were at 1% as stated above.

2. Second, what is the rational behind making it so difficult to establish a colony? It seems you can pump up the province to a level six trading post yet still in most cases never get better than about a 38% suitability for making the jump to colony. I know that in EUI it was ridiculously easy to establish colonies--I often never bothered with the trading post build but EU2 seems to go too far in the other direction.

3. Why not a greater effect from disease on native populations in the New World after contact with Europeans? To be historical, the natives in most provinces should begin to die like flies almost immediately after coming into contact with Europeans. Instead, nothing like this happens in the game. Even in the highly populated provinces of Mexico there should be drastic reductions in native population after contact with Europeans, and in some of the more sparsely populated North American provinces the small native populations should be reduced to zero by disease.

Native pops go down the fist time you move troops into the province, though it will recover to it's previous level.

There are some events that simulate this as well, although they may be in the EEP.

Like the man said, the natives in an uncolonised province drop in numbers when military troops enter the province, and slowly recover after.

Population in conquered provincies from pagans don't drop when they're conquered, or to be more acurate don't drop more than in any other province conquered! The EEP has some events that simulate the epidemies in certain key provincies in America!

You can only maintain a certain number of colonies/trading posts (based on your monarch's ADM rating) at one time; after your exceed your limit the chances of establishing new colonies goes down quickly. So, develop some of your colonies into colonial cities before trying to expand. As a side-note, assuming you are under your limit, the chances of establishing a new colony can be improved by: building a trading post; killing the natives (though this will actually make it harder to build a trading post); having a monarch with a high ADM rating; having a Conquistador in the province at the time you send the colonist.
