One thing that i saw after last patches is that christians starts declaring holy war to distant lands(see screenshots). It looks like really strange, when king of France declares war to Andalusia and go for it across muslim territories, conquers that land and all do not mind. And its happens only with north Africa and Iberian Peninsula.

North Africa and Iberia is full of easy Holy War conquests. Whenever I play Southern Italy, I have to hold myself back or I'll gobble them up within a single generation. I noticed that the AI started doing this a lot more recently, even before Reaper and the latest patch. While a small part of me is upset that Aquitaine, France and Burgundy take huge swaths of Spain and Morocco, I'm glad they're taking the same opportunities I would've.

You saw that with the last two patches. Andalusia is hardly distant from France.

It was Conclave that caused all the Italians to start targeting Africa though I don't why.

I've noticed this as well, though if I'm not mistaken it's been this way since Horse Lords. Any incarnation of France will go after Algiers and occasionally the Balearic Islands, then Lombardy in 769 has a thing for North Africa as well.

Between early North African colonization, Muslim dominance in East Africa, and the Umayyad's destiny of uniting Iberia, there probably should be something to discourage both human and AI from taking places that were historically a pain to control or were otherwise too poor to be bothered with.

Just noticed you've got some Pisa in North Africa, too. That takes me back to brand new CK2: when my Irish conquests of Spain and North Africa would be halted by Pisa taking over the entire African coast. I'm going to start getting nostalgic for culture-restricted kingdoms/empires, Holy Wars from across the world, and epic-level assassination wars :D

The opposite happens too in East Africa with the Hashimids in Medina targeting the Miaphysite OPMs in East Africa and the Duchy of Axum etc, I think it's just the increased AI aggression.

It's not colonisation, not in the way the Romans and Greeks did it and certainly not in the way it was done during the Renissance and so on.

Yeah, it's kind of irritating, it's why in my current Aquitaine game I make sure to declare war on France whenever they end up going after Iberia or Africa. And it's especially irritating when the Holy Roman Empire conquers Mallorca in a Holy War and starts getting in on the fun.

The opposite happens too in East Africa with the Hashimids in Medina targeting the Miaphysite OPMs in East Africa and the Duchy of Axum etc, I think it's just the increased AI aggression.

Yeah, I hate this. I'd love to play a game in East Africa with the new faces, but it's impossible since I'll end up getting eaten by the bloody Muslims that surround the region.

It's not colonisation, not in the way the Romans and Greeks did it and certainly not in the way it was done during the Renissance and so on.

He didn't mean it literally.

I can confirm it happened before Reaper's Due. My pre-RD game had Pisa conquer the entirety of the De Jure Kingdom of Africa, while Aragorn has Algeria, and France owns half of Spain despite not even owning Aquitaine. Pisa eventually lost its coastal territories in an absolutely huge revolt (despite being no friend of Pisa's, I was actually going to help them out and land troops there, but I stopped when I saw a 20k rebel deathstack sieging their last African province). Funnily enough, apparently the Pisans had been adept proselytizers, so Kingdom spawned by the African Revolt was, in fact, a Catholic country. I strongly preferred that to a powerful Pisa, so is good for me. They are strong enough that, they've survived a couple Jihads (they are helped by the fact that the Knights Hospitaller control Jerusalem and draw some of the fire), and even Holy Warred for some tiny province in Sicily the Sultan of Egypt snatched up.

Still not as bad as it was after The Republic launched. I remember Genoa routinely stretching from Cyrenaica to Fez; although, sometimes it was Pisa. Or Pisa and Genoa in alternating patches. Point being, North Africa has been hit a lot worse in the past.
