While I realize that this game isn't supposed to be a completely histroical game, there needs to be some relevance to history here. Colonization for the Western powers is completely busted. Colonization should be the most interesting part of the game. It's not. It's the most boring part. First of all, the area reuqirements to colonize need to be revamped. Why is colonial range so messed up? It's actually impossible to make colonies at points. The fact that you need to rely on New World ports to colonize is completely nonsensical and ridiculous. Colonial range needs to be taken out of the game. All that should matter is number of ships, colonists and troops. Colonial range is a halfhearted attempt to prevent non histrical situations like England colonizing before Portugal. The fact is, if you need to resort to colonial range to stop that from happening then we have a problem. Why can't colonizing be based on resources rather than colonial range. First off, if a ship can gte to a colony, you should be able to colize there. Let me illustrate my point.

If France gets to Canada with ships and they have colonist, the colonist should be able to settle immediately. Just because France doesn't have the "tech" to get the neccesary arbitrary "range" shouldn't mean anything. THIS DOESN'T MEAN THE COLONY WILL SURVIVE. THE CHANCE OF THE COLONY SURVIVING SHOULD BE BASED ON RESOURCES AND TRADE ROUTES.... Not some arbitrary 'Range" nonsense.

I'm not trying to critice Paradox you guys made a great game that I spent hours on, but the fact is colonizing is just a bore with no flavor and little sense.

Indeed, colonization and trade are pretty boring. If you want to have fun you are almost forced to go into the conquest/land power area. I expect the next patch or dlc to make them more enjoyable.

Oh, and to your "range" issue - you need to be able to make a round trip, not simply launch a boat on a one-way suicide mission. Portugal can reach Japan at the beginning of a 1444 game with suicide explorers, that doesn't mean they should be able to colonize taiwan. People colonized to send resources back to the homeland, not because they were one-way exiles.

No offense but nothing you said denies anything I said. Also when I said "could go", I meant a round trip. And your thesis is inaccurate. Making a "round-trip" has nothing to do with colonizion. In fact, you don't even need ships to colonize. You could easily destroy all your ships and still have a huge empire in this game so I don't see your point my friend.

no colonization should be adequate from the base game, no DLC required pdx failed at that

My point is you are whining about something you haven't even bothered to check that there are a ton of things incoming (two weeks) to address issues. Clear enough now?

no colonization should be adequate from the base game, no DLC required pdx failed at that

Make that case after the patch when we see how much is included in the base major patch vs. dlc exclusive.

I don't see how I'm 'whining". I'm constructively attacking a part of the game. I have very right to do so.

-presenting opinion as fact
-"messed up, busted, boring, needs revamp, nonsensical, ridiculous, halfhearted"
-caps rant
-Not even basic research to know a huge colonization patch + dlc is coming very soon

sure sounds whiny

yea i agree about colonization, but trade? everything is okay with trade imo
Can you please show me the section where I said something was wrong with trade? Trade is beuatifully done in this game. In fact I believe trade is so good that it should have more of an influence on other things. Please retract that statement sir.

If you want to simulate colonizing any where in the world, just get access to there ports. You can use any nation as a jump off point if you have port access. Problem solved.
