I haven't played a serious game in ages. Probably since 2.1, IIRC. Can someone enlight me what were (if any) changes implemented with colonization? To be more specific:

1. What are current requirements for colony to be build?
2. Can colonies (in building) be destroyed?
3. Can established colonies (provinces) be decolonized?
4. Was the bug which depopulated capitals fixed? (i.e. removing pops for every colony-in-building after every save/reload - not only once when establishing colony decision was made as it should be)

Thanks in advance

I've just recently learnt how to play the game, so take this with a grain of salt:

1:You have an adjacent province with at least 10 population and that has a civ level of at least 50. Also, if there is another empire in a stronger position (higher Civ level), who also has an adjacent province to the one you want to colonize, that will block your progress (time limited block? I'm not sure, but I was suddenly able to colonize a province even though another empire had a stronger province right next to it)
2:Yes, by barbarians (don't know if other empires can do that as well)
3:Yes, by barbarians (if they take over a colony it will revert to being uncolonized), can't find a command for it though.

Exactly that what bothers me - there should be at least option for destroying colonies by other country when they are at war.
As for barbarians I assume they simply do it automatically when they appear in such province?

3:Yes, by barbarians (if they take over a colony it will revert to being uncolonized), can't find a command for it though.
Hm, how does it happen? I tested it a little and such province is simply marked as occupied by barbarians but that's all. Is there a special event for this?

Unfortunately it's still not fixed *sigh*. I've reported it at bug forum.

Perhaps the pop culture is the key? I've seen a recently colonized region easily overrun and decolonized, but the ones, where the locals have learned the benefits of civilization, just get under barbarian military control, I think.

I tested it a little, and no matter what I did the colony was left untouched.
I edited savegame with province being sieged by barbs. Tried changing culture and religion to barbarian ones. Tried to lower civ value to ridiculuously low numbers as 0.01%. Finally I lowered pops number to close to zero numbers. Nothing. When siege was over I got the usual info about barbarian pillage with ca 2% civ value lost. BTW, isn't it strange that there is absolutely no casualties in population??? Well province does get some penalties to grow percentage all right, but they are quite small and they don't last for too long to make much of difference.
So, if province really can be overrun and decolonized then only by special event - which I can't found either. This doesn't looks good to me :(

I've never had it happen to me, but I have seen it happen to the AI. It might be that the barbarian uprising needs to come from within the colony (that was what happened to the AI when I saw they lose a colony)

I've seen it happen now and then. Not only to the AI, but also once or twice to me as player. Whenever I could witness the event, it was an invasion, not an uprising, but I don't think it would make a difference. Always a recently established colony. Though time elapsed since foundation may play a role, it seems to depend on the size of the colony. IIRC if population after takeover drops below (equal?) 2, the colony will be destroyed. If over, it will display the barbarian flag and revert to original owner if the barbarians are crushed or bribed out. If not, the event of creating a new nation/state could happen, under certain conditions
