It was some time since I played EU1 so here is a question about religions and settlers.

I read Stonewalls summary on religions in the FAQ, however:

I am playing an IGC2.3 Persia. I have Shia as my state religion. However, now I need some settlers in order to convert provinces to Shia. Can I get settlers through any means other than building a shipyard or through events (or cheating of course :)) ??

No. Cheating, events and shipyards seems to be your only chances :)

There are the files (IIRC) colonists.csv and traders.csv, if you add your tag to these you could get colonists (as many as wanted). 100 = one colonist / year. The files are added so 50 in one and 50 in the other = 100.

Wtf! Now I play Prussia. I am playing the IGC with the option Unified Prussia which gives me both Brandenburgs and Prussias starting provinces. Around 1680-90 or so I build my first shipyard. And the effect on my number of colonists??? NONE! And none for the rest of the game either! And I even does not get any colonist for being a protestant country? I have several core coastal provinces (eastern pommerania + original Prussias two starting provinces), two shipyards and I am protestant – still no colonists? Can anyone help me on this?

That sounds weird for two reasons:

Prussia was by no means a naval power and wouldn't have gotten a shipyard.

You should've got a settler *confused*

Sorry, I'm no help here...

No, Prussia was definitely not a naval power, but since I did not receive any colonists with Prussia after converting to Protestantism, I saw no other possibility but to build a shipyard…and then another one. Not that it helped. :( I wonder if this can have anything to do with the fact that I played the variant “Unified Prussia”. Also I began playing the game with the Teutonic Order. After Russia, Poland and Sweden DOWed me and captured all my provinces, I decided that I had been annexed and switched power and began playing Unified Prussia.

I’ll try tonight and run an ordinary Brandenburg campaign and see what happens when conversion to Protestantism comes around.

Hm, it could be the Edict of Tolerance(lowers religious importance), maybe it removed the +1 colonist for Protestants...sounds odd though, never heard of that..:(

Should the shipyard give me 1 settler once or 1 settler/year? Coming to think about it I did receive one settler upon constructing my first shipyard (but not for the second).

However, I still did not get any settlers for being protestant. Got to test it tonight!

A couple of options in the IGC present problems with the way things are displayed in game. I have noticed this and tested it. Trust me, you are getting settlers as Unified Prussia with a shipyard. When you hover the cursor over the settler icon on the top of the screen, it appears you are not getting them, however, if you add your religion bonus, plus your colonial dynamism, plus the shipyard settler, and then run the game for one whole year, your settler values will even out and in actuality, you are getting everything you should be getting.

Shipyard(s) give +1 settler per year, no matter how many shipyards you own (Igor keeps mentioning to Padraic that there's a shipyard just across the border at Ragusa...)
