Colonies during conversion

Just wondering, when converting to HOI2DD, what happens to colonies that have not yet been claimed. I know that if they have no claimer, then they turn over to no one (obviously) in conversion, but what happens when a colony is disputed?
does each on become a porper province of the colony owner?
does it turn to no one?

If I remember right it becomes a black hole in the map.

The just become regular provinces actually. The only time you get black voids in the map is when there is no presence at all. Which is what usually happens with those few South American provinces that don't start with colonies in southern Argentina, who never seems to get around to finishing colonization down there.
