Why dont colonies, that turn into cities and other cities under 5000 population that start at the beginning of the game change culture after you have owned them for 30 years as new colonies/cities under 5000 population do?

Only cities with less than 5000 inhabitants will change culture.
And they will only do so if they have another culture than the "native" one. most cities that is there from the start will have their native culture, colonies doesn't, same goes for converted pagans.

Okay, so lets say I as England gain Norways colonies, then develop those colonies up to city status, then Norway gains these provinces back and these cities are still under 5000 pop in thirty years time...will the culture change back to Scandinavian?

Or will they stay Anglo Saxon because they were there at the beginning of the game?

I don´t think that the provinces in Europe can change culture like that, but I´m not sure.

I also seem to remember that european provs won't convert in this fashion. But assuming they do:

In your case they have changed culture from the original one (ugric or scandinavian) to anglosaxon, and will therefore change to scandinavian as anglosaxon is not the original culture, but I don't think it will because this doesn't apply to european provs iirc.

But any colony will in almost all cases change culture, but you don't have to wait 30 years, you have to wait until nationalism ends, so if a colonial city revolts to you (no nationalism) it will change culture immiedatly (I remeber that one time when I played Sweden and established a TP next to the spanish main, the whole of Mexico defected to me, and most of it became Scandinavian, oh the joy). Same thing could happen if you take a core, but I don't know about that.

You can't change the culture of a colony with more than 1000 inhabitants (colonial city). I've never tried to place a lot of colonists in these cities; it's expensive, and I doubt it would cause any changes.

no, no, no, your all mistaken my friend.

After 30years or end of nationalism colonies and cities under 5000 pop change culture to yours, except it seems the original ones (at start of game)

@Bodvar Jarl & Saulta...I guess I'll just have to test it :)

You can't change culture with extra colonist, but culture may change after nationalism has disappeared.

But... the culture will not change away from the default culture for that province (see province.csv). So a province in Ireland won't change away from Gaelic, for example. It works on colonies because there really aren't colonial provinces with default cultures matching the traditional colonizing countries (except maybe Scandinavian, Ugric, Russian, and one or two oddball Portuguese or Arabic provinces).

So you say that all those colonial cities I conquerd in the past are now just pretending they have a different culture? That's really weird; this game sometimes doesn't give important information such as the real supply limit during winter, but that's still bearable.

What he says is correct. Then you haven't waited 30 years, the city ain't under 5000 inhabitants or the culture was the default one.

Or he's just playing some unpatched version of the game, remember this is a "new" feature.
