...and dragging you into them? I liked it when *I* was in control!

Seriously, my colonial nation may be able to successfully invade the neighboring colonial nation (belonging to country XYZ, let's say). But once XYZ and all its other colonial nations join the war, I am seriously outmatched. Especially since the AI is much better tactically than I am. (But that's another rant/whine/topic!)

Back in the day, if you didn't like the changes made in a patch, you could choose not to install the patch. Now AFAIK each patch is forced on you.

That may be true, but I still don't like it. Also, I don't play THAT much, and I don't always read the dev diaries and advertisements thoroughly. (I know, shame on me. ) So it may take awhile before I discover a new feature. I just now found out about this one the hard way.

Besides, would the governor of French Louisiana really have invaded Spanish Mexico without any consultation from Europe? That seems to be what is happening here.

Mmmm the Thirteen Colonies were making encroachments upon Indian territory without the Crown's approval if I recall, which I believe is what they were trying to achieve. Your CN's should be able to handle themselves vs those pesky natives. The colonial on colonial crime then dragging the overlords into wars was just a gameplay feature they thought would be fun.

I kind of like it, as I would love Vassals to act like CN's or Protectorates and start their own wars, but it's obviously not everyone's cup of tea and they know it. They've stated they know taking control away from the player is not always the best course of action.

I'm not being dragged into colonial wars. I have to use enforce peace to enter one. Personally, I love that they can start their own wars (same goes for Protectorates) though I'm having some problems now with Portuguese Mexico able to field a much larger army than my Dutch Mexico.

FYI: this feature is a key to the game in CK2 - which implements it very well and is one of its best aspects.

I'm not sure if it was a coincidence or not, but one of my CNs (Brazil?) declared war on Spanish Guyana (which was just created) while Spain and I were in a truce. It was the only colonial war I saw where the overlords didn't enforce peace and get in the war. It was great of me - a larger CN afterwards!

It wasn't just against the natives. Braddock's expedition against the French and attempted capture of Fort Duquesne was in 1755, a year before the formal declaration of war between the British and French in Europe. The ability of colonial nations to drag their overlords into war with other Europeans was implemented precisely to model how the Seven Years' War escalated.

Think about it on the flip side. What if your colonial nation is being attacked by another one and losing? Wouldn't you rather be called into that war and see if you can prevent your colonial nation from being wiped out? Even if that means dealing with their overlord?

It´s very annoying and you have to baby sit colonies to enforce Peace. Not cool to be dragged into war versus UK and their ubernavy.
