I just had a look at the 18th century from the start menu. It all looked fine until I got to America...

There are two main problems:
1) Colonial Nations are independent
2) Colonial Nations aren't what they should be historically.

Eg. in 1760 all of Canada is French Canada independent of France and neutral with GB. 90% of Mexico is "English West Indies" and again neutral of Great Britain. There are random Spanish and portugese controlled but colonial owned provinces all over south America...

This kind of messes up the seven years war bookmark...

I saw the same thing: French Louisiana in Mexico. Portuguese Brazil and Portuguese Peru competing for provinces in Brazil, etc. AND they're all independent, as you said. Basically any start date after colonies are founded are broken ATM. :(

Not to mention, some of the dates have provinces in Russia occupied by Poland (which doesn't exist), right next to provinces occupied by the Commonwealth. ?!? Have these issues always been there, or are they new? I've always started with 1444 date...

I agree it ruins later bookmarks which kind of ruins alot of the game forcing you to play from 1492 and before unless you want ahistorical independent colonies

Looks like a little bit of work has been done on this now, but it is still pretty patchy:

In 1760 GB colonies are great Newfoundland and 13 colonies both subjects. Spain's colonies are now in the correct place (no more English West Indies in Mexico) but they are all independent of spain.

In 1776 Newfoundland has become independent for some reason, but at least it is at war with US.

Still needs some more work...
