This is actually driving me insane. I build workshops and manufactories to maximize income in all colonial provinces, then they wait a few years and sporadically but persistently delete the workshops to replace them with docks and other useless buildings. If I painstaking pay attention and build things I can kinda keep what I want built but it's a losing battle.

The reason this is a big problem is because, as you know, you cannot delete things your cns build. Having to stare at a dock in their estuary capital is like watching your firstborn son born and killed again and again and again

I already hated colonial nations, and I promise you I will never touch colonial regions ever again after this, but for this campaign is there anything I can do to combat this horrible mess of a broken system? I am pissed off.

That is why I stopped playing colonization games right after that nonsense with automatic colonial nations happened.

I can tolerate a lot, Testeria, but deleting buildings I built the day the colony finished is beyond my red line.

It is by the book: if it has an agency, it would do all that nonsense that AIs normally do. For me, it is just too much hassle to create colonies just to lose all agency on that land.

And these mechanics do not even make historical sense.

Putting myself in your shoes...empathizing with the firstborn son death thing...wow, that's a lot. Have you thought maybe it's better if you just don't check up on your CN's buildings?

It's not just colonial nations either. I remember in one of my games I've pre-built courthouses in a vassal I was annexing, and lo and behold when I finished the annexation they were nowhere to be found. Not a single one. And no, they didn't go bankrupt.

The worst for me is building courthouses in vassal provinces that you are planning to annex soon. Don't do it :)

The sailor mechanic is the game developers putting stuff in just to put stuff in.
The sailor mechanic feels like the devs trying to shut up one of the fan base's many noisy detail-fixation minorities.

I think vassals and junior partners keep courthouses when they are over gov capacity but that requires having big vassal at low admin tech. I saw Deccan keeping courthouses after I created them but usually vassals are smaller
