I've read an awful lot of complaints regarding the independence of colonial nations, and I agree with that. Them declaring war on a neighboring colonial nation has consequences far beyond the Yucatan. But I also like their uncontrolableness, it adds to the realism and gameplay. What about a realistic compromise, we already have leader "Types", why can't we specifically appoint governors who fit certain profiles? Explorers, administrators, etc. If you want to avoid war, appoint a peaceful governor, you want the colonies to expand, appoint an explorer. I see this as a nice change. Maybe it's been said before, and maybe it's a terrible idea, but just a thought.

Yes, I feel that the AI personality of your colonial nation should always match with the type of governor you actually choose. It's painful to appoint a diplomat that few years later drags you in a global war...
