I posted this originally in the main forum, where it met with a decent amount of support. I later realized it should have gone here, in the Suggestions area, though nothing happened when I asked that the thread be moved here. I hope it's not a violation of etiquette to re-post here, but as Suggestions really was the more appropriate place for it to begin with, and as I don't know if any devs saw the original thread, I wanted to give the idea one more chance to be considered. Here it is:

I don't know if this has been brought up before, but could the name of Colonial Louisiana and the various CNs that get formed there be changed to "Mississippi"?

Louisiana was named by the French specifically in honor of King Louis XIV. It's really weird to see that area keep getting named "Norwegian Louisiana" or "British Louisiana" or "Portuguese Louisiana" in games where the French have never had a presence there. Instead, I think the region should be named "Mississippi", after the river whose watershed it largely encompasses. This name comes from a Native name for the river, making it plausible that even absent French colonization, the name "Mississippi", or some variant thereof, could still have been used by explorers from Norway or Britain or wherever. (A French CN there should still be called simply "Louisiana", but other nations would yield "Norwegian Mississippi" or "British Mississippi", etc.)

(I know someone is inevitably going to say, "Just mod it yourself." In fact, I am trying to put together a mod that makes some changes to colonial regions, but since I don't actually know how all the relevant files interact with each other--I know jack squat about programming--it's going very slowly and I can't get the game to recognize my changes. If I can ever get it figured out and actually get the mod working, fantastic. In the meantime, I believe the change I'm requesting here makes enough sense to be part of the base game itself, instead of just as a single mod that most people would never use.)
