This must be a bug, it cannot be anything else! It completely ruined my Inca achievement attempt....
The Biritsh colonies of the new world, supported by myself and Haiti, against GB and a monster France (Iberia+France+half the HRE). We have totally beaten them, i.e. occupied all the French colonies, and the few loyal British ones, wiped out heroically every doomstacks they have thrown at us. WS is 20+ and ticking up. And then the colonial nations settle for a huge monetary compensation.
We played this three times. Conquer everything in the Americas, wipe one doomstack after another, even swiping some minor French and British fleets dare to come to our coasts, and the colonies settle for a ridiculous monetary compensation! They didn't even give me my permanent claims held by a French colony and occupied by me.

Ok, I would get it if they would settle for a monetary compensation when they did not win clearly yet, but why would they settle for anything less than independence when they already won the war and there are no enemy troops on the continent, nor is there a reasonable chance that the enemy could send anything that could threaten us? And THREE TIMES?! Ridiculous...

Yeah this is kind of ridiculous. They don't take land either even if its in their colonial region which messes up the border.

I mean the AI doesn't take provinces. But really the independence peace term should give the former CN any provinces in its colonial region its former overlord happens to possess at the time.

They were permanent cores AND set as vital interests, still they settled for some ridiculous monetary compensation (since then I continued to try, focusing on hacking enemy troops as fast as I can) four times in a row.
As I see the main issue is that
A) The CN is considered the offender and so every ally, CN and protectorate of the overlord is ridiculously eager to join the fray. Seriously, why would Hannover or Perm care about what happens in the Americas? And why especially would they waste resources o send troops to die to the other side of the planet?
B) The CN doesn't get enough ticking WS from keeping the opponent away from its capital. The overolrds got WS only form winning some major victory on the sea and gaining footholds on a few islands. That's nowhere near good enough to keep their overlordship. At least it shouldn't bee.

In my recent Tunis game, I supported a lot of colonial nations to weaken the european colonizers and I observed this as well. I wiped out complete navies to the last transport ship and helped the CN's on land battles, yet they still opted to just peace out for some ducats and whatnot where they should definetly have been able to enforce their independence.

Colonial independence is broken in more than one way: In addition to what you say, they break out far too early currently... AI is utterly incapable of keeping any colony for more than 100 years.

For me it is the opposite, i have yet to se a colonial nation break free since the Cossacks dlc.

Support indeendence is usually not worth it. If you attack a nation who has disloyal colonial nations they wont help the overlord. So just attack the loyal one and take provinces that way.

THere are exactly two colonies that break away 100% of the times: Haiti and Brazil. Because they are founded by Portugal who is super weak usually. Then those colonies usually team up with England or Castille making colonial independence even harder to achieve.

THere are exactly two colonies that break away 100% of the times: Haiti and Brazil. Because they are founded by Portugal who is super weak usually. Then those colonies usually team up with England or Castille making colonial independence even harder to achieve.
Haiti, Mexico, Brazil,... In my native american game they all broke free from England and Portugal before I even encountered any european. And England was not especially weak, Portugal neither. I rather often see, that the already free colonies are the first to support indepence for others. Yet, I've also seen multiple times that colonies win an independence war and go for... money -.- I guess they tried to fix this by disallowing them to take provinces but the AI is still to stupid...

I think it's all independence wars that are broken. For some bizzare reason vassals and countries in PU also peace out of war they are winning without enforcing their independence.

There are two cases of interest here with different causes:

1) Peacing out when they have 30 WS or above (i.e. meeting requirements but not picking peace option).
2) Peacing out before 30 WS (i.e. too early).

I've done some work against #2 recently which should go into 1.16. You need to tell me if #1 is a problem as well.

The problem with #1 is that they don't wait out the ticking WS. Like when they purged the New World form enemies but because of the naval battles they didn't reach 30 WS. The CN could just wait a few more months but if there is nothing to do they don't wait for the score to reach 30, they decide to close the war instead. They also chose this when they have plenty of manpower, no provinces sieged down, winning the war but not quite there yet. Like in my last attempt, British Colombia was the war leader, army at full strenght, provinces unoccupied, navy mostly intact. The Thirteen Colonies lost a few non-fortified provinces to the English but we were pushing forward, conquering French CNs, liberating the occupied provinces and beating back enemy troops. Yet British Colombia decided to settle for a monetary compensation.

In my last campaign, there must of been 4 wars of independence by brit brazil alone. Even when they had the warscore, they just peace out wanting money. I seen the Portuguese colonies do the same thing. Was hoping they would go independent by after several years of bloodshed, but instead they wanted the money and that was it.

Honestly I feel that independence wars should regard the subject as the defender, that might solve some of the hairy things like Francberia, Polandblob, Great Britain, and the Palatinate being called against Haiti trying to break free.

Defender means nobody is ever called in due to the huge distance penalty. Wouldn't be very fair, as the colonies usually find someone you backs them. Yet, I agree that the probability of allies joining should be reduced, possiblty even allowing a decline without alliance break and the full prestige hit.

TBH seeing the likes of AI Austria or other countries like them invading countries in the new world with 60k men was something that always looked odd when someone declared independence. This really scewed the balance of power against the colonies/natives that were doing well but wont ever be independent.

I can't provide detail on it, but I have noticed Denmark taking monetary compensation instead of enforcing the union with Sweden. Even after they completely crush them. May have been 1.14 though.Anyway, strange stuff.
