The one thing I dont understood about colonisation is that it would always be the primary culture of your nation. it seems silly that nations like France and Spain will only colonise with the culture of Castillian or Francien respectedly. I would much rather see the game where say France colonises and they get a fairly random chance to colonise with one of the other french cultures, for example gascon.

What I would like to see roughly is just a percentage based system that runs off the culture % mechanic we see used in the ledger. so taking the French example further they might have a 25% chance of Francien, 15% of Aquitane, 10% Gascon ect. I think I would also like to see the game represent non accepted cultures being used for colonisation but I think they should have a chance penalty so should never appear more than say a 25% chance for each colony.

My reason is that it would just add more flavour to the colonial regions without being something that would require too much work to impliment.

A good mechanics would be that e.g you play as Castille. You have provinces with different cultures and religions.
Say you combine religion and culture.
You have
*Catholic Castillan
* Catholic Leonese
* Catholic Galician
* Catholic Basque
* Catholic Andalusian
* Sunni Andalusian

Say Columbus reaches America and wants to colonize say Puerto Rico.
As we know Castille has different religions and cultures.
when its being decided you put into account
1/ Number of provinces ( Its more probable you get Castillan Andalusian or Leonese compared to Galician or Basque)
2/ Different religion ( heterics can get *1,5 modifier and heathens *2)
3/ Unaccepted cultures (*1.2 modifier)

Since persecuted minorities would have a higher tendency to emmigrate

I don't think your suggestion should work with heathen religions but it should certainly include heratics, although I am a bit cautious about letting colonial nations receive a double penalty, even in the slight decline of state religions during the EU timeframe I feel its much more approriate to give CNs diverse culture rather than religion. perhaps it could happen but with a much lower chance than population.

A nice idea.

Perhaps lowering global colonial growth and have it implemented as various decisions:

1) Encourage only accepted culture to emigrate to colonies +5 global colonial growth - there's a chance to get a different culture colony but only accepted culture
2) Encourage minorities ... +5 - there's a chance to get a random culture from any of the cultures in your country
3) Encourage colonist from anywhere +10 - there's a chance to get a random culture from your continent

If you don't enact any you get only your primary culture in the colonies but the base colonial growth is 10 or something.

I like the idea of this, although I feel like it needs a bit more thought, I also worry that it might be a bit clogged up for menus. I also would like to suggest to add an option to deport minorities where you get lower stability cost and culture conversion costs. All in all i would really like to see more depth to one of the main themes of the game.

Deport minorities might be just a bit to close to ethnic cleansing for Paradox to implement. I thought of it, too, but I'm not sure if it would break some rules.

Hmm, what if they made a french culture, that over time, lets say every 20 years or even 50 years, slowly became its own culture, like french at year 0 (When say french canada is born) at year 50 culture becomes french canadian, and all french provinces become french canadian for free, then 50 years later, culture becomes canadian, and is no longer in the french group, and it all becomes canadian for free if it is french culture or french canadian culture? Idk if this is a very solid idea but it is an idea.

That is a really fancy Idea, I really like it but I worry that it might be quite difficult to program, I may be just concerned over nothing but it sounds great from where I am sitting.

Im not sure if its difficult per se, have u heard of this mod. Third odyssey back to the motherland? basically is byzantium leaves europe and forgets about it, after like 100 years or so the culture changes to elysian, and like 50 years later there are teirs that tick up, like elyishi, to elyishian, and the highest is high elysian, and over time the cultures in each province, for lack of a better phrase "level up", and all of these cultures are accepted. If it is hard they could just take the mod and change the names and culture groups and IDS each time. I understand your concern, im not sure myself how hard it is.

While I like the idea, like Fluffy I agree that I'm a bit uncertain about it's implementation. Cultures definitely need to be revised, and I hope they take your idea into account when doing so, but until then it might just be possible to have two cultures for Canada to simulate the divide; Canadian with Canada as it's primary nation, British Group, and Acadian with Quebec as it's primary nation, French Group.

They should do away with the one cultre per province system alltogether. Another possibility is that colonial nations get their own culture in the same culture group as the coloniser. (American for english colonies in the thirteen colonies colonial region for an example.

Its not as if colonies actually cover anything near as much space as they used to either since trade companies happened a while ago. Would you use culture groups rather than individual cultures for this? Please explain a bit more.

There is enough of it littered through history, maybe reword it to something more politically correct?

"Deport minorities" is politically correct.
I just had to clarify this because it just sounded so foolish.

Back on topic:
The cultire flipping after a certain amount of years is similar to CKII.

They already have some events in game that switch a colony to other religion and you get son settler growth.

I purpose they just add more events.

No they would use a dynamically generated culture that is added to your culture group. For an example if the tag portugal creates a colonial nation in colonial brazil the culture of all provinces handed over changes from portugese to a culture (which copies everything except the name from the parent, portugese) named portugese brazillian (or braziillian protugese) is added to the iberian group. The name is always linked to the name of the colonial country tag (change the name of the colonial country and you change the name of the culture) and copies it's details from the primary culture of the founder. As for colonies in regions that don't have colonial regions I guess the could be handled as they are presently.
And trade companies are still colonies trade companies for all that they show up in the vassals screen are still just a modifier, not a real vassal.

Hmm, would this be an event, or perhaps Quebec, or as my friend calls it quebecqou, should stay acadian, and cannot be culture converted? and this raises the question, would it be auto accepted, same culture group or not accepted?
