Instead of culture in a colonial province switching to that of the colonizer, it would be cool seeing it switch to a colonial version of it, based on the home culture but separate from it. Needs programming for a new dynamic system though, I suspect.
So if, for example, as a Dutch colonizer I colonize 'New Amsterdam', the culture of the province would not be 'Dutch' but instead 'Colonial Dutch'. Same for any other nation and culture.
Advantages (well, those I can think of, anyway):
- all colonial culture could possibly be in one cultural group, separate from the colonizer's culture group, making culture acceptance less of a problem in colonial nations expanding through conquest of other colonial nations (the idea here is that colonials have more in common with each other than with their old countries back in Europe anyway, due to proximity and similar conditions)
- adds the possibility to convert culture in the colonies, since there is no primary tag prohibiting it
- basing tag switches on a different parameter than being a 'former colonial nation'
- possible colonial culture events, perhaps even per colonial culture? For example: some events fire for 'Colonial English' but not for 'Colonial Castillian' and vice versa. For example 'encomienda events' that fire only if your nation has 'Colonial Castillian' as primary culture.
- ... it looks nice?
