Playing Austria, VIP. During Austro-Sardinian war, I secure a favourable peace with Sardinia-Piedmont (several provinces), then an unfavourable peace with France (-15 prestige). After peace with France, my economy tanks; productivity in my industries falls by 35-50%. Why does this happen?

I suspect the cause is based on Victoria mechanics rather than VIP, but I've put it in this forum just in case.

I can't figure it out. For instance, the main export good for Austria is Coal. World market conditions only change in a way that reflects the large domestic reduction in production, e.g. coal declines from 75 to 40. Maybe this is related: After the war, there's a large increase in revolt risk across the country (perhaps >2% average), not caused by militancy. As time goes on, productivity creeps upwards as revolt risk creeps downwards.

It seems that upon concluding any peace with France, war exhaustion surges from 11% during the war to 100% immediately after the peace. I can measure this by comparing the effect of war weariness on POP consciousness; it goes from 0.03 to 0.25 once I conclude peace. War exhaustion doesn't seem to be well-documented anywhere, so I think I have found out all I can.

I'm not aware of such a relationship, though I suppose it might be worth testing. What about your industries? IIRC Austria has a steel, canned food and small arms industries, all of which I imagine would go up in demand (and therefore price) during a war between such countries.

Prices are not the issue, they decline marginally for most goods. For Coal it is about 3%, for military goods it is bigger. I am sure the problem is the fact that peace causes 100% war exhaustion and therefore reduced productivity and high revolt risk. It's an interesting case that I haven't encountered before.

It seems from past threads that concluding a peace with France while they occupy several of my provinces is counted as a major loss for me, and gives me significant war weariness. A lovely undocumented feature of Victoria there, nothing to do with VIP at all.

Again, as far as I am aware, war exhaustion doesn't contribute to reduced productivity, just increased revoltrisk (with minorities being more prone to being unhappy). Furthermore, I am not aware of revoltrisk contributing to productivity.

Also, a lost peace doesn't give you 100% war exhaustion (though war exhaustion can remain invisible for some time after a war has ended).

If it is literally just productivity (and not price) that has changed in efficiency, then it probably has been induced by some random event. As I say, it's not something which I have particularly noticed myself.
